“Good place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

I enjoyed my stay at the Gialel B&B. It's in a good location - about a 10 minute walk from Termini Station or 20 minutes if you are trailing a big suitcase like I was. The B&B is located in an area of government buildings but it is pleasant and I felt totally safe when walking around at night - the U.S and Swiss Embassies amongst others are located just down the road, so there you see a lot of security around, which makes you feel at ease if you are walking home late at night. You can be woken up early enough in the morning with the sound of honking horns as people go to work, but then again you are in Rome, so why would you want to be sleeping in?

The B&B itself isn't marked by a sign, there's only a buzzer at the door of number 14 which I missed and had to walk around the block to find it again. The family who run the place are lovely people who couldn't have been more helpful. The B&B itself is quite basic, functional and comfortable. I had a big room to myself. It was very clean and had what you needed - although a few more sachets of shower gel would have come in handy! There were two shared bathrooms, which were always clean and I never had to wait to get in. Breakfast was a bit a basic. It was all you could eat, but there wasn't much of a selection and there was nothing fresh - some fruit, yogurt, fresh croissants would have been nice.

The location itself is good too. It's about a 15 - 20 minute walk into the centre of Roma Piazza Venezia. My usual route back to the B&B took me past the Trevi Fountain which was always nice. It's close enough to walk into the centre and beyond, but not so far away that if after a long day seeing the sights and you don't fancy walking back, especially up the steep hill, then a taxi isn't going to cost a fortune.

Overall I really enjoyed my stay. It was good value for money when you compare it to the cost of other places. Rome isn't the type of place you go to and just lounge around a hotel in all day, so there's no point paying a fortune on a hotel that you are never going to be in. As such, this place serves its purpose of being a comfortable and safe place to stay, in a good area that isn't rammed with annoying tourists.

Thanks again

Patrick

We had chosen Gialel B&B at random, mainly for their location in Rome... but it has been a wonderful surprise for us! First the location is really ideal. Ten minutes on foot from Termini Station and Barberini. Fifteen minutes on foot from Trevi Fountain. The B&B is really in the center of the city! Taxis and buses are directly in the street. Then we have appreciated the warm welcome of all the team. Very nice and friendly, helpful and funny, we have been treated like we were in our own family. The B&B is really clean and quiet. it is a great place and not expensive at all when you see the perfect location of it! We will come back for sure... that's a place that we would have kept for us if they were not deserving to be better known ;-)) Take care ;-) Sandrine

I was stuck in Rome and was promptly assisted by Peppe and his wife and daughter where I was driven to their B&B and was very impressed by the tidy clean rooms and incredibly friendly and honest staff.
The place is central, close to good restaurants and very safe. I strongly recommend it.

Easy to reach by public transportation, the owners (a very nice family) are helpful and very gentle, the place is clean and the breakfast abundant. I will be back in there next time in Rome, for sure! I advice it for families as much as young people visiting Rome.

Loved my stay here. This is a modest inn run by a very kind and darling family. Some speak excellent english while others did not, however, thru hand gestures and a map, he told me how to get the bus and which one. Really hospitable! Three of us to a room and we were quite comfy. Highly recommend staying here as it was very affordable, two blocks to the bus, clean, and we had our own private bath. The water pressure in the shower was even better then at home. There isn't much to the accommodations, but I came to Rome to see the city not sit in my room.

While I was looking for a cheap-great location to stay in Rome I found Gialel to be the perfect match. The building is in great conditions and located just a few blocks of Via Veneto, which is great as you can get to the most exciting areas in Rome real quick and by walk. The family is lovely and willing to help make your stay even more enjoyable. The rooms & bathrooms are very clean and the breakfast is good, but what really makes the difference is the service from the managers, they really strive to make you feel comfortable and happy, just like in a family environment. I'd definitely choose Gialel again to stay, eyes closed.

gialel is run by a lovely family, keen to overturn the previous perception of the old hotel. they are charming & helpful and were up until midnight to greet us on our arrival. the hotel is clearly being restored, and therefore my review is a reflection of that. our room was small, lacking air conditioning, and at the time had no flushing toliet. that said, in the morning the toliet was fixed. maybe we got a bad room. at 80 euros a night in a fairly good location in italy, this is probably what you would expect to pay, so maybe dont expect much. the breakfasts were a little lacking compared to what you can get elsewhere, or even in a cafe for a couple of euros. i do think in months to come, whilst they continue with their restorations this will become a better place to stay.

Dear Deena,

Thank you for writing a review of our B&B and for your kind words about our family. You are quite right, we are making restorations to make the B&B an even better place to stay for our future customers. We recently took over the management of the previous owner of the place and started renewing it, which of course takes time to do. It's already now a wonderful place and in times to come it will become a fantastic place for everybody to stay. Please don't let the momentary difficulties discourage you from recommending our B&B and if you want to come back you are always welcome.

Best Regards, Gialel B&B.
