I enjoyed my stay at the Gialel B&B. It's in a good location - about a 10 minute walk from Termini Station or 20 minutes if you are trailing a big suitcase like I was. The B&B is located in an area of government buildings but it is pleasant and I felt totally safe when walking around at night - the U.S and Swiss Embassies amongst others are located just down the road, so there you see a lot of security around, which makes you feel at ease if you are walking home late at night. You can be woken up early enough in the morning with the sound of honking horns as people go to work, but then again you are in Rome, so why would you want to be sleeping in?
The B&B itself isn't marked by a sign, there's only a buzzer at the door of number 14 which I missed and had to walk around the block to find it again. The family who run the place are lovely people who couldn't have been more helpful. The B&B itself is quite basic, functional and comfortable. I had a big room to myself. It was very clean and had what you needed - although a few more sachets of shower gel would have come in handy! There were two shared bathrooms, which were always clean and I never had to wait to get in. Breakfast was a bit a basic. It was all you could eat, but there wasn't much of a selection and there was nothing fresh - some fruit, yogurt, fresh croissants would have been nice.
The location itself is good too. It's about a 15 - 20 minute walk into the centre of Roma Piazza Venezia. My usual route back to the B&B took me past the Trevi Fountain which was always nice. It's close enough to walk into the centre and beyond, but not so far away that if after a long day seeing the sights and you don't fancy walking back, especially up the steep hill, then a taxi isn't going to cost a fortune.
Overall I really enjoyed my stay. It was good value for money when you compare it to the cost of other places. Rome isn't the type of place you go to and just lounge around a hotel in all day, so there's no point paying a fortune on a hotel that you are never going to be in. As such, this place serves its purpose of being a comfortable and safe place to stay, in a good area that isn't rammed with annoying tourists.
