I had a very good impression of Hotel Caracciolo. Let me first say that I traveled to Italy with my girl friend. We are both 18 from the Boston area, thus, we had very low standards and not a lot of money. That being said, I still think the majority of people would be very happy with the hotel. It was close to the train station (5-10min walk). This may not be the best area, however, even coming back at 12-1, we never felt in danger or anything of that sort. Also there were no noise problems. The train station is also a subway stop and a main bus stop. Therefore, you can use public transportation to get virtually anywhere. This hotel is not in walking distance from most sites, however, as I mentioned before, being so close to public transportation was much more valuable. The room was a lot larger than we expected, and the bathroom very nice. They had 24 hour reception, and a generous breakfast. The AC was refreshing. The people were all very friendly and spoke decent enough english that language was never a problem. The hotel was reasonably priced (come on, we're only 18, so we can't be spending big bucks). So all and all, if you want to shell out a lot of money for a luxurious hotel, go ahead, but, if you just want to enjoy Rome at a reasonable price and want a hotel that you do not have to worry about, then I would highly recommend Hotel Caracciolo.
