I must admit that at first, I was leery about staying at this hotel because I felt that it was located too far from some of the big sights (Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Piazza Venezia, Vatican, etc). My boyfriend picked out the hotel and he ended up being right on the money. It is about a 15 minute walk from the colosseum and the rest of Ancient Rome. The hotel is also about a 5ish minute walk from the Metro stop (equidistant from both Termini and the Via Cavour stops).

The room was much larger than other hotels we had stayed at in our 4 week long trip through Italy. The bathroom was very large and had a multi-jet Jacuzzi shower. It was enjoyable, but I am a small person; it may have been a bit tight for a larger male. Nonetheless, we loved the hotel. The decor was tasteful and the hotel, while taking up 4 floors, felt almost like a boutique B&B. The breakfast was the best we have had in Italy, and the first place to actually offer eggs and real drip coffee (Italians are big on pastries and espresso). They had a variety of meats, cheeses, fruit, cereal and pastries every morning. It was very very good. The staff was more than helpful, giving us a free map, coordinating taxis and reservations, etc.

We enjoyed our stay at Raffaello. Given the chance, we would definitely stay here again. If your concern is the location - don't be. You might not be able to walk to every sight in Rome (frankly, I'd be surprised to find a hotel where this was possible) but you have easy access to the Metro, and within walking distance to Trevi, Spanish Steps, Ancient Rome, Piazza Navona, etc. If you choose to stay here, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Oh, and there is a nondescript Ristorante Pizzeria around the corner just off of Via Cavour on Via di Santa Maria Maggiore (across the street from the Gelateria on the corner where the building says "Calzature") that is very good. The gniochetti in a white truffle cream sauce was absolutely to die for.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here earlier this month. My husband and I had a room on the top floor with a terrace and view of the local street. No views of the city, however, we were only in our room to sleep. Our views were obtained from our sight seeing. My daughter and her husband had a smaller room on the floor below us. The hotel was clean, well staffed and had a great breakfast buffet including scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage. It was one of few places we stayed with air conditioning. The location was convenient for trains, buses and walking to many tourist sights.

I can't comment on the price because it was included with our airfare through Expedia. I was pleasantly surprised with the location, cleanliness and size of our room and bath.

Don't expect soft mattresses or heavy weighted towels at any Italian hotel. All beds were very firm and towels thin. The thin towels were great for drying quickly anywhere that did not have airconditioning.

Via Urbana is not a main thoroughfare, however, we walked to the hotel at night and never had any problems.

We were lucky enough to be on the top floor and had a fabulous balcony.
Very, very comforatable king size bed, nice spacious room and very nice
breakfast, On the whole, this was a fabulous hotel and I would return.
Only thing missing was the kettle for tea/coffee and my only negative
comment would be the horrible thin towels.

We stayed at Hotel Raffaello in June 2009. I read most of the reviews that people posted about this hotel and was really excited about our stay there. First off, the room was clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast was adequate - the breakfast room staff were incredibly friendly. The people in the front desk were neither friendly, nice, nor helpful. Overall, I would have to say that this hotel is overpriced for what you are getting. I was expecting, both the room and the hotel itself, to be a bit nicer. Also, I stayed in a four person suite but I saw one of the two person rooms when they were cleaning it and it was tiny - even for European standards, but I don't know if all the 2 person rooms looked this way.

I would recommend looking elsewhere before booking at Hotel Raffaello. I would not stay there again.

We stayed five nights in the Hotel Raffaello in June. It was an absolute pleasure from the time we were checked in by Angelo until our departure. We had been conned by a taxi driver out of €90 for a €10 fare and of course were upset upon arrival. But Angelo was fabulous and we stayed in the room with the balcony, which was a great size. We were there to get engaged and as I had mentioned that to Angelo, within ten minutes of getting into our room a bottle of champagne was delivered up to us. The staff are absolutely lovely and I will recommend this hotel to anyone I know travelling to Rome. We hated to leave. To all of the staff in Hotel Raffaello, thank you for your kindness.
