I must admit that at first, I was leery about staying at this hotel because I felt that it was located too far from some of the big sights (Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Piazza Venezia, Vatican, etc). My boyfriend picked out the hotel and he ended up being right on the money. It is about a 15 minute walk from the colosseum and the rest of Ancient Rome. The hotel is also about a 5ish minute walk from the Metro stop (equidistant from both Termini and the Via Cavour stops).
The room was much larger than other hotels we had stayed at in our 4 week long trip through Italy. The bathroom was very large and had a multi-jet Jacuzzi shower. It was enjoyable, but I am a small person; it may have been a bit tight for a larger male. Nonetheless, we loved the hotel. The decor was tasteful and the hotel, while taking up 4 floors, felt almost like a boutique B&B. The breakfast was the best we have had in Italy, and the first place to actually offer eggs and real drip coffee (Italians are big on pastries and espresso). They had a variety of meats, cheeses, fruit, cereal and pastries every morning. It was very very good. The staff was more than helpful, giving us a free map, coordinating taxis and reservations, etc.
We enjoyed our stay at Raffaello. Given the chance, we would definitely stay here again. If your concern is the location - don't be. You might not be able to walk to every sight in Rome (frankly, I'd be surprised to find a hotel where this was possible) but you have easy access to the Metro, and within walking distance to Trevi, Spanish Steps, Ancient Rome, Piazza Navona, etc. If you choose to stay here, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
Oh, and there is a nondescript Ristorante Pizzeria around the corner just off of Via Cavour on Via di Santa Maria Maggiore (across the street from the Gelateria on the corner where the building says "Calzature") that is very good. The gniochetti in a white truffle cream sauce was absolutely to die for.
