“Excellent Hotel Close to Rome Termini”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2014

I've stayed in many hotels and Rome and this hotel (about a half mile from the Termini station and close to Santa Maria Maggiore) is an excellent choice. Great rooms and great service. An excellent breakfast and close to the Metro. I recommend it highly for value and service.

This hotel was really, really good. Me and my wife pretty much loved it although Rome is a city where you won't spend much time at a hotel.
First of all, location is perfect. The Colosseo, Palatino and many other places of interest are within a short walking distance. Also you can easily find a good restaurant.

The rooms are not very big, but really cosy, comfortable and maintained with care. It is the first hotel around Europe (and we've been to lots of 3* and 4*) that among other bathroom accesories had elastic hair band for women. My wife, who loses them regularily, was immediately charmed by this little detail.
It should be mentioned that interior of both hotel and room is pleasing for the eye.

Breakfasts were good enough but the choice was a bit limited. Also, "soft boiled eggs" turned out to be hard boiled actually:)
It should also be mentioned that the "mobile wifi hotspot" service, provided at the hotel (4 euro/day-1GB) is also somewhat disappointing, mainly because the device itself is not convenient at all. Those who tend to use mobile internet should consider buying a local sim-card.
The hotel-based wifi also has some limitations and is not fast (sometimes barely working) at all on the 5th floor.
Also please be aware that there's a local church's bell ringing at 7 a.m. For us it was a good start of the day, but may be disturbing for other people.

The staff was friendly and helping.

All in all we had a very nice experience. This will be our hotel of choice for the next visit to Rome.

Dear Александр,

Thank you for having given us a little bit of your precious time, we appreciate the effort , as our guests' feedback is very important to us: it has always been the meter we have used in order to set our bar always higher...

We are glad your wife has been thrilled by us taking care of little details, it is how we prove our interest in our clients' wellbeing...

We are waiting for the next time you will visit, just don't come back at Easter: churches' bells are the loudest ever! :)))
Warmest wishes,
Elena

A nice hotel on a nice and quiet street "Via Urbana" . Very convenient location , you can walk to the Colosseum,Trevi fountain and most other attractions in just 10-15 min depending on the pace you walk . It is also close to the main train station Termini if you are coming by train and closest metro " Cavour " is about 100 m from the hotel . Our room , last on the right , on the 5th floor was one of the best , it is quite spacious and comes with a small balcony overlooking a church . The bathroom was nice but the shower area was very small , you could barely move in that . The staff were great and as usual , notice during the entire Italy trip , always willing to help .Breakfast I should say was the best I had in last 10 days in Italy , it has hard and soft boiled eggs adn also scrambled plus the other usual stuff. For travelers from UK or someone wishing to taste some Guinness stout , there is a Irish pub called "Fiddlers Elbow " behind the hotel across the road inside a quiet lane. For dinner , I can recommend the happening Monti area which is just 200m away on left from the hotel ,at the end of Visa Urbana. The place is lined with small restaurants where the locals hangout in the evenings. It has some contemporary and chic restaurants which are easy on the pocket .

Dear bibiNfifi,

May I stand to correct you, please? :)

Hotel Raffaello is not near Monti area, Raffaello is in the middle of Monti district, which is a lot bigger than simply Via Urbana...
But it is true, however, that Monti's streets are full of small chic reatsuarants, gelaterias, tavernas, handcraft shops, and boutiques...

Best wishes,

Elena

My first time in Italy and I was looking for a hotel close to Termi and walking distance to attractions. This fit the bill perfectly. Charming rooms, great staff, nice old world feel. I stayed a few times, the rooms range from perfectly sized to slightly bigger than average for Europe. If you like the "Old" Beverly Hills hotel instead of the modern tower behind it, you will like this. The neighborhood is eclectic, not park like, but not unsafe....

Bruce,

Glad to hear we have set a trend... :)

Truth be told, the ownership has tried to maintain the romantic character of the building, therefore the furniture, carpets and wallpapers respect that era's schema...

Monti is, indeed, a very particular neighborhood of Rome, it already existed during Nero's times, it used to be called "Suburra" (where the word "suburb" comes from). Nowadays, it is the most ancient neighborhood in Rome that is still functional and lived, therefore it is charged with almost 2000 years of history...

Hoping you will pay us some other visits in the future, we wish you all the best!

Warmest regards,

Elena

The location was fantastic. It was a quick walk to Termini and also a quick walk to the Colloseum and other sites. The front staff was exceptional and very attentive. The elevator is very small and hardly fits two people with one medium size luggage. It was not problem for us, but something to be mindful of if you have packed a lot of have a few people travelling with you since you'll need to take the elevator separately. Breakfast was delicious with a nice amount of options to start your day. During our stay the wifi was down, which we found frustrating but we made due by visiting the Drunken Cow restaurant down the road which had good wifi, good food, and good service with reasonable prices.

One thing I would suggest the hotel reconsider is the need to leave your hotel key at the front desk when you leave. They have a tray you leave your key in and then when you return they provide you with your key. This made me uncomfortable but when we asked for our room key one afternoon and they gave us the key to another room I felt even more uncomfortable with that slip up. All in all it was a nice hotel in a great location that met our immediately needs, but I would suggest they reconsider the need to leave the room key behind.

Dear loves2travel7,

Thank you for having spent a little bit of your time writing about us , and your experience here... We are glad we have managed to leave you such an awesome impression, our guests' needs are our main concern... :)

As about your doubts: even though we are familiar with the fact in United States one doesn't leave the key at the reception desk, it is common practice in Italy for the guests to do so, for their own protection in the first place: you have the name of the hotel written on the key, plus the room number...what if you lost your key in the city, someone found it and came here, claimed it was you (maybe shifts have meanwhile changed, and the other coleague didn't make in time to know you)?! Would you feel safer? This, and a lot of other reasons, as well....are behind the fact one has to leave the key at the reception desk whenever leaving the hotel... :)

As for the elevator, its size is one of the reasons we do have a porter: it is our common practice to carry our guests' luggage to the room, as we have probably asked you, as well...

Hoping you had a warm welcome home, we wish you all the best!

Best regards,

Elena

This hotel was the best of the hotels that we stayed in Italy. The lobby is welcoming with the chandeliers and decor. The rooms are well-appointed and comfortable. It has to be one of the few hotels in Rome that can accommodate four people in a two bedroom accommodation. The pillow menu was a nice touch which allowed you to select your pillow comfort. Each bedroom contained a television. The bathroom was clean. The maid service did a great job. The breakfast was outstanding with a great selection of food. The breakfast staff was friendly and helpful. The front desk clerk when we checked in was okay, but became a bit rude when were asking questions about tour information. He was the only downside. The other front desk clerk was very helpful in offering suggestions for restaurants. She was nice.
Overall, an excellent place to stay.

Dear Penn,

Thank you for having given us a bit of your time, we are happy to have been able to create such a beautiful memory about your staying here, except for the negative part, which we are sorry for...

You know, our job is not only technical, we have to do with people from all over the world, from all over the countries, all ages, all cultures... At a certain point, what is courteous for a culture might be offensive for another one, you would be amazed to see if you spent some time here, at the reception desk...
Where I am getting that there are moments where we have just finshed talking to someone, and another guest comes, and we are still used to talking and behaving the previous way , and some guests might have the perception we are being cold or rude, but truth be told, we have simply not have the time to "reset" our brains... :)

This lesson of antropology being finished... :)))))) we wish you a wonderful return back home, and...we do hope we will have the opportunitiy of hosting you here again soon.

Best regards,

Elena

We stayed at this hotel for five nights in July and we enjoyed it. The hotel staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We arrived earlier than the check in time and the room wasn't ready. No problema! The staff helped us stow our luggage and led us to a resting area for some beverage and cookies. Then the concierge gave us suggestions to visit some nearby sights. They speak good English. When we went back, the room was waiting for us and the luggage has been brought in - thanks.

The breakfast is wonderful - the best breakfast we've had for our Italy trip. The staff serves hot coffee and toast, and the coffee tastes great. The room is in a good shape, exactly looks like the website photos show. It is pretty quiet at night and the bed is comfortable, albeit a bit feel of the plastic cover of mattress for some reason. The bathroom is very spacious even by North America standard. Everything is clean and in working condition. The shower enclosure though is quite small and for a big person it would feel somewhat confined. The towels are a bit more like napkins than towels...

The hotel is located about 1/2 mile from the main train station and is in walking distance to sites like the Colosseum, Roman Forum. A few small local restaurants close by are pretty good for a cozy dining. In all we are happy with our choice and would go back again.
