We contacted the Daphne six months before our visit to Rome and were so surprised when they informed us that they were all sold out! When they contacted us approximately two weeks before our visit, we jumped at the chance to fill in on a cancellation.
From the get-go, I was amazed by the Daphne's level of service. They immediately sent us directions to the hotel, and information of use to our stay (maps, restaurant recommendations). I cannot say enough about the level of service.
The lodging itself is unique. You are basically sharing an apartment with one other suite, and your bathroom (although private) is outside your suite. That means you have to use your robe to move between your room and bathroom (as do your neighbours) and make sure you do not lock yourself out!
Aside from this oddity, we found the room to be very comfortable and large enough (bearing in mind how small rooms in Europe can be). The bed was really comfortably, and the bathroom was modern and spacious. The walls are a bit thin, though, and we were forced to try to sleep through our neighbours odd hours.
The breakfasts were adequate, but not exceptional. Good selection of yogurt, cereal, meat, cheese and pastries. However, I am always surprised at how many places try to serve "tourist" fare - ie. Swiss cheese, generic salami, instead of the local food! We would really have liked some Italian cheese and meats, and some more authentic breads...Italian food is so good, why serve imported German flatbread?? You could, however, order a coffee which was a nice touch.
Overall, I think good value for Rome and great if you are not interested in staying in a hotel.
