This hotel was not at all what I expected. It is really just a group of rooms on different floors of an apartment block. It is fronted by a very small cafe which acts as reception and breakfast room ( max seats inside would be about 12). If is is raining or cold then ...standing room only. The first morning we were down about 9am and got the last seat inside. Others had to sit outside and it was still raining, but lightly.

As I have a gluten free diet the young man who greeted us warmly promised all sorts for breakfast, but as he was not on duty for the rest of the stay, it did'nt happen.
The only service we had was a coffee.. everything else was self service in a cramped area.

The room was fine, but there was no air conditioning and we had to keep the window open in 28 degrees( lovely) in order to sleep. That was soon shattered by the club life opposite..Giorni... they came out to smoke, argue and shout at each other, quite an entertainment! It lasted until 3.30am. If you had a room on the courtyard side you would have been fine.

We didn't let it spoil our holiday, but in no way did the hotel match up to its description as a boutique hotel. It was a new experience, but at least it was clean and comfortable, but I was expecting much more. There is no sitting room, no communal area for meeting people.

Les Chambres d'Or was a good place to begin our trip through Italy. Sam was very helpful when we had an issue with a local ATM. The service was great. Room was small but clean and the beds were the most comfortable of our entire trip. A bit of a hassle getting to the hotel from the main train station but it is within walking distance of the Vatican so convenient for someone visiting there.

Overall this was a good hotel, and I would recommend it mostly to someone who wants to see the Vatican and avoid public transportation.

I met a group of friends here in August and felt good about the experience by the time I left. Upon arrival I intended to take public transportation to the hotel, and was pleasantly surprised to see someone waiting for me at the airport with my name on a sign. I was driven in a nice clean van directly to the hotel, and then informed that I must pay 45 euros to the driver. Silly me, I figured that if they were going to show up without asking me that it must be included in the hotel. My friends had been warned about this, and made other transportation arrangements...but all said and done, it was probably a good thing since I got to the hotel so easily and safely while alone.

The hotel has rooms spread across 3 different buildings...and since we didn't notify the staff in advance, my group was split up across a street. Calls between the rooms were free, so it wasn't really a problem.

The room was very nice, with a huge bed and a tiny, but clean and updated bathroom. The AC was a bonus since it was so hot at the time.

The breakfast at the hotel was perfect for us....mainly breads, cereals, yogurts, cheeses and meats...but the best part was that the hours went until about noon....so we could sleep in and still enjoy the breakfast, and we didn't even bother buying lunch. The prices around the hotel area are pretty steep, 8 euros per beer...but the hotel offered a much better rate since we were staying there.

The staff was extremely helpful...they googled restaurants we wanted to go to, called them to make sure they were open, helped us find plug adapters for our Germany and US electronics and more. At the end of my trip, they even drove me to the train station since there was some confusion about arranging a shuttle ride.

Wifi cost 10 euros for the entire stay. It worked in my room, and at the hotel lobby/breakfast area...but my friends had trouble picking up the signal in their room across the street.

Junior was the most pleasant staff member, and Alessandro and Samuel were extremely helpful and warm people. They gave me a good impression of Rome hospitality.

Between the 4 of us, we shared 2 rooms and paid 80 euros each (including breakfast). I booked directly through the website and communicated with Alessandro in advance via email.

This is a great value hotel. It's actually in a 19th century Roman apartment block, so you get to use a cage lift. Very cool! Staff are very nice and helpful, very honest too. Sandro is a great manager, loves his job and does his very best to make your stay great. Deborah the tour guide is lovely and extremely knowledgeable about Rome and its history.

It's 5 mins walk from Vatican museum in one direction, and the tube station in the other. Perfect!

Small criticism- the rooms we saw have miniscule showers, if you are pregnant, in a wheelchair or even slightly overweight you would not be able to get in. They're so tiny that I kept turning off the water when I turned around.

The mattresses are the type that seem popular in this type of Italian hotel- very soft, they get a bit squashed after a few nights.

These are just small points. The layout, location and staff more than make up for them. You will have a wonderful experience of Rome in this hotel! I highly recommend the guided tour, well worth it.

There is nothing bad to say about this place. The staff are all wonderful, managed beautifully by the very competent and relaxed Allisandro for whom nothing is too much trouble. They have there own guide, a very bright and engaging American woman called Deborah, who is knowledgeable and helpful and gives a great tour! - well worth it - do it!
The hotel is quite literally just around the corner from the Vatican, and a 5 min walk to the underground which will take you directly to all the amazing spots in Rome, and of course there are very very many.
I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Truly. Many thanks to you all if you're reading this:)
