My family and I stayed here in May 2008 for 5 nights and had a very pleasant time. The staff were polite, friendly and helpful. The hotel is very pretty with loads of character, centrally located and most of the popular sites are within walking distance.Even though it's not advertised on their website they will arrange a pick up from the airport (3 of us with luggage cost about €50 and is well worth it particularly if you are new to Rome and don't fancy schlepping loads of luggage over cobbles.) The hotel is situated in a cobblestoned laneway off the Piazza Farnese which looks vaguely threatening when you arrive at night but is just plain charming when you get your bearings the following morning.
We would certainly stay there again which is always the best recommendation

Having heard that European hotel rooms were generally smaller than US hotel rooms, I wasn't surprised to see how small the room that we had was. Residenza Farnese, however, apparently has different sized rooms for relatively the same price. And the bathroom sizes and configurations also differ from room to room. One bathroom had a toilet that faced a wall which was about 2 feet away. The rooms are not soundproof so there will be street noise, especially from workers in the nearby businesses. Breakfast is served at about 7am consisting of hard rolls, cheese, "deli" meats, fruits, coffee, tea or water. And a small bar, from which you can get a glass of wine in the early evening.

Most of the staff was friendly and helpful. There is one woman (the owner?) who always seemed sour-faced and not very helpful at all, but for the most part, the rest of the staff really tried to understand our desires and accomodate them. They even politely smiled at our attempts to speak Italian to them.

The hotel is within walking distance to many of Rome's main sights. Campo de Fiori is a block away. Buy some fruit there to take on your day's journeys and in the evenings, it becomes a gathering place for the young and young at heart. Piazza Navona is a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. I even walked to Castel d'Angelo and the Vatican in about 20 minutes. Many great restaurants and cafes are also situated close to the hotel.

  • Liked — Very close to Rome's main piazzas and sights
  • Disliked — Hard beds, small room

Just got back from 3 nights here with my girlfriend. Absolutely fantastic hotel, full of character, tastefully decorated. Spotlessly clean. Amazing location on a lovely side street just of piazza Farnese and 30 seconds from Campo de fiori. Within easy walking distance of every sight in Rome, including the Vatican. Very well located for the Trastevere, just a short stroll over the Tiber. I do not think the location could be bettered.

We asked for a room overlooking the Palazzo Farnese, which we got. Fantastic view of the gardens of the Palazzo. The size of the room was more than adequate, generous double bed, writing desk, mini bar, good sized wardrobe, nice bathroom, LCD TV. Room was quite, the side street is not a busy one. This was a standard double room.

Reception area is lovely when you walk in, as is the breakfast room and the food to go with it. Lovely fresh pastries / fruit / meats / cheese / bread / jam / cereals / cake etc etc. Coffee also very good.

Staff were friendly and helpful. We arrived early, they took our our cases and gave us a map and quick intro to nearby sites to see until our room was ready. Cases were waiting in our room when we came back.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone. Very good value.

We stayed in Residenza Farnese from 16th to 21st September 2007. The location of the hotel is perfect for exploring Rome and we visited most of the city on foot. The hotel is close to the Campo de Fiori (maybe too close) which is handy for picnic food and evening drinks but definitely noisy at the week end. We enjoyed the proximity to the Ponte Sisto so most evenings we ended up in Trastevere for our late night drink.

The hotel was extremely clean and well maintained with very helpful staff, all of whom spoke excellent English. Rooms vary in style from stylish to rather old fashioned but are comfortably finished with good bathrooms, sorry read that as shower rooms as there are no baths.

Good breakfasts were included with our room; wide selection of breads, pastries and cold meats, excellent coffee but mediocre tea and poor quality fruit juice.

I would definitely stay again but rooms away from the front of he hotel are quieter as the narrow street seems to be a popular short cut for late night revellers.

  • Liked — Location and helpful staff
  • Disliked — Could be noisy at night
