This place scared the [--] out of me!
I needed a place to keep my laptop, they told me it'd be fine under the reception desk.
I came back later and the desk was vacant, and my laptop, and everyone else's stuff was there to be nicked.
A staff member was staying in my dorm and tried to pick a fight with me over the window! Eugene is it still too noisy?
Messy, filthy, dirty, unsafe, unclean. All but one off the staff will try to rip you off blind. Do not stay here. The only good thing was that there were some cool people also staying there.
One word Ewwwwwwwww

Myself and my boyfriend stayed in M&J's for 1 night (thankfully) last June 2006. We were interrailing around Europe for 16 days and Rome was our last stop (although it was not our first time in Rome).

We had to trail our backbacks up a few flights of stairs. There were some renovations going on downstairs as far as I could tell and the place was very dusty etc. There was an old looking lift but it didn't appear like we could use it. I assumed it was for residents.

Anyway we got checked in and that was fine. We booked a private room. The room was tiny and very sparse but to be honest that didn't bother me too much. We only wanted the place as somewhere to sleep. It was painted a bright pink/red colour and there were 2 single beds in the room. We had a wardrobe aswell. The view from the window was all concrete, very unappealling.

We had to use the 2 shared toilets in our hall and to say they were filthy really is an understatement. The toilet seat was broken, the ground was all wet. I didn't even want to go to the toilet in them let along shower, they really were disgusting.

That night we found it very hard to sleep as the room was so hot so we had to leave the window open but there was alot of noise from outside.

Breakfast was included in the price but to be honest it wasn't worth talking about. It was a croissant and orange juice. I poured the juice into one of the few cups that I could see and there was some black stuff floating in the juice so that really was the final straw for us.

From what I rem the hostel cost us €35. Rome is an expensive place but I am sure that you could get better value for money elsewhere.

the hostel is amazing, with newly renovated rooms and really fantastic staff. i would recommend it to everyone i know because it is a really cool place and it made my time in rome very enjoyable. eugene in particular was the most helpful receptionist that i have ever encountered in a hostel, and he is really hot. federico is also great, and the bangla dude working the night shift was very funny. ask him to say GOOOOOOD for you. 2 very enthusiastic thumbs up.

this is the worst hostel i have ever stayed in in my life. its dirty and discusting....the staff are rude and are terrible at dealing with people. i stayed there 2 nights and then went to yellow hostel which costs the same and is like staying in the hilton hotel compared to this dump. stay away....stay away. dont ruin your trip and dont waste your money. your better off giving it to someone sleeping on the street.
