Really terrible, since we got there, the staff were really horrible to us. All the "included stuff", is awfull. The breakfast was the worst breakfast we´ve seen in a hostel, the rooms downstairs are new, but they ent us to an upper room, they were really dirty and creapy old. Internet was as if we got back to the 1995... sloooooowwwwww, thy don´t have any common area, but a waiting room for the poor unaware, like us, who are booking. The kitchen is for 6, while they´ve rooms for 600!!!! Horrible, AVOID!

We arrived in Rome early afternoon, very tired as we had an early start. We arrived at the hostel to find a young women complaining that her digital camera has gone missing from her room, and was told why would they take your camera and nothing else, all the reply she got was I used to work selling cameras and you would not get much for a digital camera. We tried to explain not the fact that the camera gone missing, but the pictures are special, and my wife was them told off like a small child and told to keep her nose out in so many words. After feeling like a naughty child, we was eventually allowed to check in, and we was not informed about breakfasts, so we thought they was included when we booked, only to find out next day that we had to pay another 24 EUROS for both of us just to have breakfast, been warned, read the small print when you book, and also you have to pay for the internet, which they advertise is free.

The showers for the large dorms are disgusting and the floors are always peed on by other guests, and they are no places to get dressed for the girls, my wife had to get changed in a dark dorm, which she felt embarrsed, luckly everyone was asleep, as for sleep, forget it, very loud and noisy, and people smoking in the toliets and the dorms.

We have stayed in many hostels which were much better and the showers were much cleaner and you had more privacy even sharing dorms, would not recommend for couples. yes you had clean sheets. The dorms were clean, but the toliets and showers let the place down, you had a lift, but could not been used as for special guests going to the 5th FLOOR, so if u could not manage the stairs, FORGET it as you got a hefty walk, to the 4th floor to the mixed dorms,LOL.

Seriously, if there are so many bad reviews...you know there is truth to them.

The good: the sheets are clean and white and starchy.

The bad: Everything else. The management was rude and always looking to take you for more money. Even the owner was downright rude and has no concept of treating his paying customers with respect. Different desk workers gave different/wrong information that he was not happy about so he yelled at them and then punished the customer as well. Ridiculous. I don't care if you are a hostel OR a 5-star hotel...the customer is your 'bread and butter' and they should be treated fairly and respectfully.

The dorms and place in general are characterless and cold.
What they say is chic and minimalist…is just plain jailhouse minimal. Perhaps the single and double rooms are nicer...but the dorms are pretty sad and the bathrooms are dark and pathetic and have no hooks or place to put your clothes. There are no lockers...you can keep your laptop behind desk - not a good idea! The breakfast is lame.
They say they have internet and you can use your laptop—but it’s not wireless. Well, actually they have wireless...but will not give out the code as it's just for the owner--how silly. They only provide 2 ports in the wall by the front desk where you can plug into the internet network.
I highly DO NOT recommend staying here. Rome is full of other much better, and more professionally run hostels...like The Beehive where I went next. M&J - Not worth it!

It is always a bad idea to arrive in a large city with out accommodation booked - then accept the first place you walk into that has beds available, just becuase you are tired, cranky and lugging a realy heavy back pack! We arrived in Rome in the rain, lobbed into the M & J and booked a double room for 2 nights. The stench of rot as we walked up the almost vertical stairs to our room in the crawl space/loft should have rung the alarm bells but still we persisted. No opening window, the bathroom wasnt able to be used, and the smell of damp was over whelming. The roof leaked and our stuff got wet, however when the staff were alerted to this, they shrugged and said it couldnt be fixed (hmmm, looked like the problem has been occuring for quite some time). We were able to use the general toilets and showers which were dismal beyond belief - filthy, and drenched in water, constantly. Avoid the bar downstairs - rip off. Staff at the hostel were friendly on check in but as we had a few issues during the stay became less than helpful. We ended up leaving a day early, just to get out of the festering stench, but the smell clung to us, our bags and our clothes for the next 3 weeks through Europe. We stayed in some much cheaper hostels elsewhere in Europe and I would suggest giving this place a very wide berth. Only positive is the location, very close to the train station, but there are heaps of other hostels and pensiones in this area that you would do well to check out first. Unfortunately this place really spoilt our time in Rome.

  • Liked — Proximity to train station
  • Disliked — Smell, facilities not working, leak in room

Me and my boyfriend travelled Europe last October and stayed in quite a few hostels and this one was one of the best.

Our impressions of the hostel wasnt very good when we first walked in and up the stairs but we were plesently surprised!!!

The recetionist Mario was very friendly and spoke a number of languages!!

The hotel room was very modern and spacious. The room had a safety deposit box and Sky TV free of charge. The use of the internet in reception was also FOC.

It was in a good location near the main train station and in walking distance to the main attractions.

The only down side of our stay was the breakfast, it was included within the price but there wasnt much to choose from it was very basic!!

I would recommend this hotel to travellers as it is cheap and great value for money.
