“Beautiful, cozy, pleasant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

Hotel Villa San Pio was a great hotel. My family stayed in two of their rooms for four nights, and although we did not get the room that we had originally requested, we managed to feel right at home. The hotel was in a nice location, but the walk to most of the main sights in Rome took about 20 minutes at most. Thank goodness we learned how to use the bus. The food was good. Not every room in the hotel had WiFi, which I thought was a little absurd. Overall, I thought my stay in this hotel was nice.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony

We ( 2 couples) had a wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel! The staff was very helpful and did their best to please us with rooms and service. Great location and breakfast, aircondition and room! Breakfast is served in the peaceful and wonderful garden. Intimate athmosphere, makes you feel like home, very much recommended!

Room Tip: The rooms have different sizes for same price due to layout of hotel. try to get a corner room!

A very pleasant, home-like hotel, situated in the beautiful district of Aventino, near to the centre, while being in a quiet, pleasant area, full of great trees, flowers and gardens, as well as beautiful churches. The welcome is excellent, the rooms have character, the staff is extremely pleasant and helpful. I have spent 10 days in the hotel, on business, and it really felt like home. When coming back after a day of sightseeing or of work, it feels like an oasis of peace. Excellent breakfast buffet, with fresh fruit and a wide choice of food to suit all tastes. Nice garden, pleasant bar in the garden, with extremely friendly personnel. Reception staff is very helpful and they can guide you to places you want to visit, as well as to a nice choice of nearby restaurants. The rooms are spacious, some of them have balconies. There is air-conditioning in the rooms, which helps if you go in summer. Cleanliness is really spotless. It is my favourite hotel in Rome with an excellent ratio quality-price.

Room Tip: If you like quiet rooms, higher floors are better.

This place is a little over-rated in reviews...but not a whole lot.
The hotel is in a very nice, quiet neighborhood located within a 15 minute walk of many main sights in Rome--one hour walk to Vatican City.
We were put in the little cabin in the middle of the garden. Very romantic!
Breakfasts were good. Most of the front staff was helpful, but there was one grumpy dude.
A beautiful retreat in a very busy and noisy city.
And for the price, you cannot beat it!

My wife and I spent 5 nights in June 2012. The hotel is in a quiet, leafy tree lined street on the Aventine hill. This area is an oasis in the chaotic exuberance of Rome. Walking distance to some interesting churches, (one of which has marvelous view over the Tiber ) Palatine hill and if you’re feeling fit, the Coliseum. Walking distance also to bars restaurants and a supermarket. We had a top floor room which was superb. Quite big, nice bathroom, good bed and a real bonus was the very private balcony. Breakfast was good and served in a delightful garden setting. Staff at the front desk were reasonably helpful but did not seem to have a lot of local knowledge. (Perhaps it was a translation problem). When visiting the sites watch out for pickpockets, especially on the Metro (don’t use it) and the Trevi fountain.

Room Tip: Room 529, top floor, very big balcony.

I have stayed at the Vila S. Pio on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed. The rooms are elegantly decorated and furnished and the staff are friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable about Rome, and its attractions, and how to access them

The hotel has lovely gardens, and offers a good breakfast as part of the room rate. The restaurant extends into the gardens and it is lovely to sit there sipping a cocktail (or espresso) on a warm evening. Rates are very reasonable for the quality and size of rooms.

Villa S. Pio is on the Aventino Hill, about a 10 - 15 minute walk from Circo Massimo (and the nearest Metro Station), and the Fora Romana. The Aventino Hill is a quiet, residential area, but close to many local restaurants, shops, bars etc. including in Testaccio, a residential neighbourhood with lots of good restaurants. Buses are also convenient.

No hesitation in recommending this hotel.

This hotel is a little gem..I have stayed here for 3 years running, all in July when its been so very hot in Rome..I also stayed here many many years ago when it was a far more basic hotel than what it is now.
The truth is I don't think I will every stay in any hotel in Rome but this one. I have had various rooms over the years..some really large, others just basic standard double..all have had really comfortable beds with good linen..always clean rooms. You can open your windows and sometimes like this time have a small balcony to sit on (room 306) . The staff are very professional and helpful. I had wifi this year in my room..not sure if thats the case for the entire hotel (I was close to reception) in the past it was connect via port to the broadband in the hotel..both services are free of charge. The real beauty of this hotel is its location...set in a residential area that cool, full of trees and quiet. For a short walk down the hill maybe 10/15 mins (which is a lovely walk) you have the whole of Rome at your fingertips and then you can escape back to this private area and relax before heading out again. I have even walked back at night at felt completely at ease. The breakfast garden is stunning and the food very good for a hotel buffet. All the wait staff and porters are excellent. I recommend this hotel to anyone I know going to Rome and they have stayed and told me they loved it so I have no hesitation in reviewing it here and letting everyone know..you don't have to stay in Rome ..especially in summer...head out a little bit see another area Aventino Hill and just down the road has some interesting sites..I shop locally for food nibbles and really its a treat to come back each year! Thank you San Pio again you have made my holiday grand!

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the breakfast garden area and try an dget a room with a bath shower as Ih...
