We stayed at the Milo Hotel in the first week of February and cant recommend the hotel highly enough.
Firstly, the location is fantastic. It is only 2 minutes walk from the Termini Train station which I think is a definate positive factor. The Terravision bus transfer from Ciampino (takes 20-25 mins) drops off/picks up at the Termini, as such within 40 minutes of landing, we had got the coach, got to the hotel and checked in.
The hotel is very easy to find from the Termini. From the Terravision drop off point, enter the Termini, walk straight through the main area to to the other side, cross the road, take the road slightly to the left, walk straight down the road and take your second right. The Milo hotel is abotu 3 doors down on the right handside. Reception is on the 1st floor, which is only accessable via stairs.
We arrived at 11am and the reception staff were more than happy to let us check in and were very friendly and welcoming. We were shown to our room by one of the cleaning staff.
Our room (530) was on the 5th floor. There is a lift, that must have been upgraded since previous reviews as it was absolutely fine. Not very big but plenty room for 2 people with bags. As there are several hotels within the same building, you need to press a buzzer for access to the floor, which is a good thing for security.
The room itself was great. Very clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the room freshly decorated. There is a desk with a large mirror, TV (limited english channels but i like watching the local tv to try work out whats going on!!) There is a cupboard with plenty of coathangers, shelving and there is also a safe in there.
The bathroom is small but perfectly formed with the usual sink, loo, bidet and shower cubicle. A small criticism may be that there is very little soundproofing from the room to the loo so you may need to be prepared to hear late night trips to the loo from your roomy!
The view from this room is not amazing and looks over a backyard type area but the windows, shutters and curtains block out a lot of the noise from the nearby streets.
The rooms are cleaned daily and fresh towels are provided daily also. The cleaners begin their work around 9:30 but do not attempt to clean your room until you have left for the day, which i think many hotels could learn a trick from, no unwanted early morning knocks!!
On leaving the hotel for the days sightseeing, you must leave your keys at reception and collect them on your return, which although may sound like a slight hassle, it really isnt and the reception staff are very pleasant. There are plenty of info leaflets in reception and the staff are more than willing to help you should you need it!!
i cant comment on the breakfast as we decided to have an extra couple of hours in bed following a full days sightseeing followed by a late night equating ourselves with several of the local hostelries!!!
A lot of people have said that the area around the Termini is slightly unsavoury, however, i have to disagree, we didnt see any trouble whatsoever and felt perfectly safe walking home late after a nights entertainment!
The hotel is literally 10-15 minutes away from the Colloseum which is fantastic! We walked everywhere and didnt use public transport once, our feet were killing by the end of the 4 days but it meant we got to see many parts of the city! The vatican is about 45 minutes walk, providing you dont get lost or distracted by many of the things to see on the way!!
i would recommend this hotel to all my friends, family etc and would not think twice about staying there again!
