I enjoyed my first visit, Nov 2008, and returned April 2009. Rome is such an exciting city so all you need in an hotel is a comfortable bed in a clean room with en-suite. This is the Galeno. The staff are helpful and friendly. A filling continental breakfast is provided in a friendly dining area. I walk everywhere in Rome, without fail, but if required the hotel is close to main bus routes, underground and taxis are plentiful. I have stayed at Galeno twice and will do so again.

This hotel was very well placed close to the metro and the Termini station. A good location for a city break. The bedding was clean and towels replaced daily. Felt safe as there was a locked gate and the hotel reception was open 24 hours. The rooms were compact which is not a problem if you are only sleeping there. Staff were friendly and although there was little choice for the continental breakfast it was sufficient. The walls were a little thin and noise levels depended on the customers. (our stay was out of season) so it was not too bad.

If this hotel had the rooms painted and some hooks put on the wall to hang clothes on, changed the brand of coffee and sorted out the waste pipe smell in the shower it would be a vast improvement and I would then recommend the hotel to others.

Generally if all you need is a clean bed, shower and breakfast at a budget price with a good location for a city break then this would fit the bill.

Although rated as a budget hotel ,standards were below par.Bedding was clean but on asking for extra pillows I had to ask again the following day as they had not been provided.
Paper was peeling off the walls and the general condition was very run down.
Breakfast was very dissapointing .There was no choice and what there was was served to you on a tray short on content and cutlery. Breakfast consisted of 1 bread roll,1 croisant, small crispbread with a small wedge of processed cheese,A yogurt and the coffee was awful. On asking for an extra bread roll I was made to feel like Oliver Twist asking for more.
The dining room had guest rooms opening directly into it and the whole place had a very neglected run down feel to it.
The desk staff were polite and helpful in their local information.
The hotel is a ten minute walk from poliklinik metro station (only three stops up from the collosseum) and a five minute walk to Porta pia where a 26 bus takes you right to the Vatican.
The Hotel is Ideally situated and if all you want is a cheap place to sleep and are not bothered about a decent breakfast then I would say It is OK.

We booked this hotel on alpharooms.com it was on offer "pay 2 nites get the third one free" so we paid 98 euro in total for a double room for 3 nights which was really great value! The hotel is basic with very small rooms but clean and on excellent location, just few minutes walk to termini station and 20-30 mins walk to city centre. Even close to main road, the hotel was quiet at nite time. It had runing hot water all the time and heating on. The breakfast was basic but good, fresh and more than enough, staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel is small but easy to find.

We booked car pick up from airport and back from hotel wich costed €80 for both and as we were 4 girls it worked perfectly for us as the train from airport to termini costs €11 one way.

We chose Hotel Galeno mainly because of it's price; a real bargain for a hotel in Rome which includes a breakfast, and quite a good one at that!

The hotel is situated near the Embassies; quite far out of the centre and from the main attractions, however we did walk every day. It took between 30 and 45 minutes depending on which way we went! It was an easy walk from the train station though, upon arrival, but watch out for Romanies as they seem quite keen on pick pocketing!

Our room was quite small; quite an interesting take on the word 'bedroom' as it was mostly a bed, but was clean and well-furnished! The ensuite facilities were simple, but also clean. Our room was a ground floor one, which wasn't very nice when you opened the curtains in the morning to see the cleaning trolley!

The area seemed very safe and quiet which was a bonus.

The breakfast was excellent, full continental; with croissants and a choice of coffee, tea or hot chocolate and other such goodies.

Staff seemed helpful, but we didn't have much contact with them.

  • Liked — Affordability and excellent breakfast!
  • Disliked — Tiny rooms!
