My wife had business in Rome so I tagged along and we had a long weekend in Rome 30 Jan - 4 Feb 2009.

The hotel is beautiful and our room was elegant. We had one of the rooms at the rear of the hotel that had a small balcony. Though the view was of neighboring buildings and rooftops, it was still very pictureesque.

The hotel's restaurant was not open during our visit, as it was in the process of being taken under new management. However, this was not an inconvenience because there are numerous restaurants within a few minutes walk. My wife and I enjoyed eating locally and found that the staff at these local establishments were very tolerent of our limited Italian language skills.

The front desk staff at the River Chateau were extremely helpful, from recommending local restaurants, to recommending local sites to visit, to giving directions, to calling for taxis, to making change. My wife and I had some very enjoyable conversations with a young Greek bartender on few evenings. They were all a pleasure to get to know.

We had a Continental breakfast each morning in the hotel and the selection of breads, fruits, cereals, yogurt, etc. was more than adequate. And the coffee was excellent! Here, too, the staff was eager to be of assistance.

As mentioned in other reviews, this hotel is quite a distance from the attractions in the center of Rome. But this is not a good reason to avoid staying at this hotel. My wife and I would not hesitate to stay in this hotel again.

We stayed at River Chateau for 5 nights this August - Rome was one of our last stops after 6 weeks travelling through Europe. We found that the standard in Europe was much lower to the standard are used to here in Australia. All other hotels which we booked were terrible, no aircon, dirty sheets, hard rocky beds & very unfriendly staff After all of the terrible experiences we had we were not expecting much when we arrived in Rome however we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at River Chateau at 7am after a long overnight rail trip from Nice. We didn’t re-register this room and thought since we were arriving so early we could just leave our luggage at the hotel until our room was ready however we were pleasantly surprised when the Concierge offered us complimentary early check-in ! We were so happy and so surprised. The porter then escorted us to the most beautiful and clean room we have ever stayed in. All of the fixtures and fittings were top-notch. Our bathroom was made from the most beautiful marble and the bed was so comfortable and best of all spotlessly clean! We had complimentary Internet and cable television that had plenty of English speaking Channels - The breakfast was awesome with all you can eat & drink (fresh Cappuccinos and Espressos made to order - as many as you want) Every staff member we met were really kind and friendly. We sat at the bar one evening deciding on where to go for dinner - The bartender who was giving us lots of hints and tips on good places to go and visit went to the kitchen and made us fresh ham and cheese toasted rolls to snack on to tie us over until we decided on a restaurant - again these were complimentary and offered to us out of an act of kindness... We have stayed in many hotels around the world and have never come across a nicer bunch of people and had such a pleasant experience! The location is great, just 2 minutes walk to a supermarket, restaurants, Gelatti shops & cafes. 3 minutes walk will find you at the bus stop. Get the bus 32 to Ottaviano which will take you straight to St Pietres. If we ever return to Italy again we will DEFINATELY stay at this hotel again !!!!

  • Liked — Everything - We could not fault this hotel or staff even if we tried !
  • Disliked — Nothing - It was perfect !

We stayed there for our honeymoon. It was a great choice for our money. Room is excellently decorated and furbished, breakfast is huge and delicious and the staff was kind, too.
The only backdraw is that the AC is controlled centrally, and you cannot turn it off, even if your toes are freezing in the middle of the night.
Although, the hotel is not in the city center, if you have some sense of orientation you can find it easily, taking tram number 2 from Piazza Flaminio which is a subway station just beside Piazza del Popolo and walking for a few minutes through Ponte Milvio over the Tevere.

  • Liked — The comfort of the room and the quality of breakfast
  • Disliked — lack of AC contol

Very nice quite hotel. Rooms are clean and classy. Pick one with the balcony facing rear and you will have a nice view. The hotel is 2 minutes from the river, after 8PM - crowds of teens, tourists, lot's of fun (they had a boxer match organized right on a street one night), lot's of cafes and etc., very safe place. In hotel all staff is very friendly.

One thing - it looks like AC is not working at first (compared to US "wind blowers", but in the end it gets the work done.

Strongly recommend!

I stayed at the River Chateau for business and pleasure purposes for 5 nights in April 2008.
The company that I work for has a good deal with the River Chateau and because my wife was flying over I decided to stay for 3 extra days (and nights) after 2 days of meetings at our office in Rome. For me it was my first stay in Rome and the River Chateau and it was great! In my opinion the River Chateau is a hotel that makes you feel welcome from the moment you set foot into the lobby. Sure, it is not directly in the center of Rome but still is located in a nice neighbour where the locals also go.
Check-in was easy and I was located to room 314. The room was quite small but equipped with all necessary amenities. After a night sleep it turned out that my neighbour was quite loud and that the noise he made was reinforced by the door between his and my room. I requested a different room without a door connecting to the adjacent room and it was all taken care off without any problem. All my clothes, suitcase and items where moved by the hotel staff to room 308. It turned out that the rooms on the backside of the hotel have a balcony. Which is nice when the weather is good because in the afternoon there is still sun on the balcony.

The breakfast and dinner at the hotel is also very good. The breakfast offers you enough choice to enjoy a decent breakfast and the cappucino is really worthwile.
Having dinner at the hotel restaurant is also not a punishment. I have enjoyed dinner at the hotel restaurant on one evening with my colleagues. Everybody received their main course at the same time and the food itself and atmosphere was good. The only remark to this restaurant from my side would be; "why pictures of a New York skyline in your restaurant when you are located in a beautiful city as Rome?"
If you want to have dinner elsewhere you can just walk down the street and choose one of the restaurants located there. I had dinner at restaurant "Voy" with my wife and enjoyed this restaurant as well.

The River Chateau is located in the Northern part of Rome near the Olympic Stadium and on the otherside of the river which crosses through Rome.
Getting to the center is relatively easy if you don't mind using public transport. We just walked down the street and across Ponte Milvio (don't forget to buy and hang a lock on the bridge). Once you are on the other side of the bridge cross the street and head for Piazza Mancini. There you take the tram to Piazza Del Popolo, tickets cost 1 euro for 75 minutes on the tram or bus and can be used for one metro trip. Once you reach Piazza del Popolo (12-15 minute ride) you can either take the metro on line B from station Flaminio (which is located on Piazza del Popolo) or go by foot because from the Piazza del Popolo you are within walking distance of the Spanish stairs, Via del Corse and Villa Borghese.

In conclusion I would advise this hotel to anyone and would definitely stay here again!
Sorry I couldn't post any photo's since I forgot to make any!
