I am sitting in my room of the River Chateau as I write this, using the free internet service. I usually can't be bothered writing reports but I just had to in this case because I actually found the River Chateau here on tripadvisor. Finding a hotel in Rome that was clean, classy and a reasonable price was a difficult call and it took a great deal of research. Given some of the prices i saw and the stories I heard it was with some trepidation that we pulled up outside after a 20 hour flight from Australia.
This hotel is certainly as good as the reviews make it out to be. It's clean, the staff are wonderful, the breakfast is great (plenty of choice, available from really early to 10.30 a.m.). The staff can't do enough to help you. Our room has a balcony, free internet, LCD TV, fabulous marble bathroom with mosaic, hand painted designs on ceiling, quality fittings throughout. The room has a turn down service every night with sweets left on the bed, lovely slippers, thick terry robe... what more can I say. 5 star service at a 3 star cost.
The local area is also great; taxi driver told us the gelateria and cake shop down the road is famous throughout Rome - it was FABULOUS and there is also a small market for fresh fruit and veg and a bread shop/pizzzeria within a 5 minute walk. The Ponte Milvio bridge is just over the road from the market. Yes it's a way into town but I am so glad we didn't stay in town. Here it's quiet and pretty - well worth the 35 minutes on one bus and an MRT into town, or just the bus goes straight to the Vatican area.
Normally I would keep a place like this secret, but I don't think we'll be back in Rome for a while so I thought I should do the right thing by the hotel and the tripadvisor community. Do yourself a favour and stay here.
