The hotel Ercoli far exceeded our expectations. We walked 15 minutes from the Statione Termini, entered via a small lift to the 3rd floor where the hotel was located, and were greeted by warm, friendly, homely people. We encountered 4 different members of staff and all were lovely and very helpful. Most spoke enough English to help us out with whatever we required.

Our room was so big for just the 2 of us...a queen size bed plus another single bed, plus tv, dresser, bed-side tables, large wardrobe. Room was very clean and tidy, and was cleaned for each of the 3 nights we were there.

Breakfast consisted of croissants, yoghurt, coffee/tea/juice, bread, and spreads.

Only bad thing about the hotel was the super-small shower.

The hotel is situated about a 3 minute walk away from the main bus lines into vatican city, the ancient ruins, and the pantheon area. There were also lots of cheap eateries near the hotel which we either stumbled upon ourselves or which came recommeded to us but the lovely hotel staff.

Extremely well priced for what you get!

Stayed at this hotel with a group of friends and found it excellent for the price, Rooms spotless, good size, towels changed every day. As on previous reviews the shower has to been seen to be believed but you just get on with it. The staff were extremely helpful in giving directions, bus numbers and booking a restaurant for us one evening - - all without either of us speaking each others language. If you want no frills hotel book Ercoli Hotel for value for money.

We stayed three nights in this hotel in August 2005. Although a little out of the way, this hotel is in walking distance to a metro station and just fine for touring all the sights of Rome. The room was thoroughly adequate, plenty of room, fine bed, spotlessly clean, good storage space, and airconditioning. The bathroom was fine, shower is small. If you are much larger than 5'10" and 180 pounds, you will have a difficult time. Otherwise, you will be fine. Staff was most friendly and helpful, and breakfast is included. It is nothing fancy (strong coffee!), but plenty to hold you until lunchtime, and very convenient to be able to eat before you begin your day. A great value for the money. We would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is affordable and relatively clean but there are some things to be wary of. The towels were not changed daily, almost none of the staff spoke English and were not approachable, the showers were tiny and the water temperature unstable. Overall it was OK but we would rate it the lowest out of the 6 different hotels we stayed in Italy.

Agree with the other reviews, we stayed here 5 nights in February 2005. Great value for the location. Spotlessly clean and friendly staff - and yes, the shower's are teeny-tiny. Our toilet ran incessantly, the manager tried to fix it but couldn't but when we closed the bathroom door we couldn't hear it. Looking at a map it seemed far out but after the first day of exploring we figured out a quicker way to get back to the hotel. We did almost everything on foot (the metro system is really easy, individual tickets valid for 90 min are 1 E or you can get a four day pass for 11 E - we bought the pass and ended up using the metro only 8 times in 4 days so it would have been cheaper to buy individual tickets - live and learn) and if you're walking straight through you can get to the Forums and Palatine Hill in 20-30 minutes (although it took us 6 hours cause there are a zillion other things to stop and gawk at along the way :). Definitely bring along an Italian/English dictionary if you need to speak to any of the staff - the day manager speaks some English but the night lady speaks no English whatsoever, it was realy hard to get a wake-up call with my limited Italian. Also - to avoid our first night debacle - be very careful to pinpoint the hotel on a map before you leave to go walking, the hotel is on the 3rd floor of a normal residential building and there's just a little sign next to the front door that's really easy to miss!!
