Like others, we booked this room via Romeby.com and were aware that we needed to check in at the adjacent Hotel Atlante Star. What we didn't know was that the room would not be ready for us until long after advertised! We ended up leaving our bags at the AS and playing tourist for three hours... and to our dismay, upon our return at 5:00 p.m. the room still was not ready. Okay, something of a minor cavil, but when the desk tells you the room will be ready in an hour, and you returned four hours later and it STILL is not ready, well, that is disconcerting.
There were other neglected details which detracted from our enjoyment of the place. Apparently the housekeepers work a full shift at the AS, and then turn their attentions to the Orange Garden afterwards. On one occasion, this meant most of the clean towels had been used in the main hotel, leaving us B&B folk with yesterday's towels.
But the scariest feature turned out to be the private bathroom (we paid more for this; the other rooms share one in the hallway). As it appears in the photos, it looks quite nice, and sports a jacuzzi. When we were there, the jacuzzi was non-functional, which wasn't an issue, but it was is a state of disassembly, leaving huge gaps between the sides of the tub and access to its inner workings. It also now sported a one inch plastic drain hose that ran from the tub, up over the shower bar, across the room and then down into the sink. A Rube Goldberg device, for sure.
To make matters worse, I suspect that the problem was somehow electrical, because the the light switch cover had been removed, providing frighteningly easy access for wet hand to exposed wiring. This wasn't a midnight experience I wanted to remember Rome by, so I covered the gaping hole with six bandaids to prevent electrocution.
I'm not against B&Bs, and have enjoyed them often elsewhere. But this seemed more like a series of apartments somehow owned by the Atlante Star's owners, with virtually absentee management or help.
The room otherwise was fine-- albeit a bit dark. If you want a lot of help or advice from the front desk, this is NOT the place for you. If you want a room all by yourself, with more flaws than should be expected from allegedly professional management, look elsewhere.
