My husband and I stayed at the Morpheus B&B in Rome for 4 nights from 10/12/08 – 10/16/08. To sum it up… we got what we paid for. We bought our stay through hotels.com for $195 a night with all fees and taxes. That’s a cheaper hotel in Rome. Be careful, most hotels don’t have a private bathroom. Our room did have a private bathroom.

What we liked:
•Breakfast included in price and delivered to your room (no fruit though)
•Decent size room for Europe
•Hairdryer (annoying to use)
•Friendly/Helpful receptionist that spoke pretty good English.
•Extra pillows and blankets in the cabinet
•Close to Colosseum and Via Veneto
•Across the street from a great sandwich shop. Best one we found in Rome.
•Hotel doors never lock. You can get in anytime.
•Has decent size lift
•Can use the microwave if needed

What we didn’t like:
•Never changed our sheets or towels
•Stains on floor, chairs and blanket
•Cramped bathroom. Bidet in front of toilet so your feet are basically in the shower while using the toilet.
•Very uncomfortable toilet seat.
•Sewage smell right outside main door.
•In an old rundown building on the 4th floor.
•Uncomfortable beds.
•TV was old and didn’t always work. Only English channel was MTV
•Very small stall shower
•Tricky room key
•Our outlet in the bathroom was hanging out and broken and they never fixed it even though we asked.
•Noisy area right outside of the rooms where the staff makes breakfast. The breakfast was basically made in the microwave.
•Could smell people smoking in other parts of the hotel
•Poor water pressure and lost hot water at times

  • Liked — breakfast room service
  • Disliked — dirty

For the price, this is a good bargain right in the heart of the historic district of Rome. It is on the 4th floor of an old building, and so the rooms are small. It was somewhat of a squeeze for our family of four. But they are clean and functional, and the beds were comfortable. The refrigerator didn't work great and the shower stall would have been too small for a very big person, but these were not problems for us. The staff is helpful and some of them speak good English. The breakfasts were adequate (a hot beverage and your choice of croissants, bread, cake, etc.). You are within easy walking distance of major attractions (Coliseum, Forum, etc.), the metro, restaurants, and supermarkets. We did a lot of online searching before booking this hotel, and we were happy with our choice.

Me and my husband stayed at Morpheus B&B for 4 nights and were very satisfied with the choice. It wasn't easy to pick the right accomodation from all the possibilities you find on the internet so tired after a long search we decided to go with Morpheus which seemed "OK" for what we were looking for. How pleased we were when we actually got to the place! Very cozy, nicely decorated room, tasty breakfast served into your room, helpful staff....The place is centraly located, we were able to reach all the Rome's sights on foot (only took a bus to Vatican which is further on from all the sights anyway, convenient bus 64 just a few steps out of the door). You also have several restaurants, a caffe and a grocery store nearby. Over all it was a very good value, compared to other places in the same price range, and we even got a 5% off for paying cash which was just another bonus we didn't even expect. We would definitelly stay again!

I recently stayed at a great little Bn'B right in the middle of Rome. The Residenza Morpheus had a cool lift that took you to the fourth floor - that was lovely - very old fashioned. I went with three girls under 14 and they loved it. We were within walking distance of many major attractions and very close to Termini station which was great. Would definitely recommend to anyone on a budget. The only downside was that breakfast was a bit sparse.

  • Liked — Great value for money in central location

If you are a lone traveler looking to find inexpensive accommodation in an expensive city, the Morpheus will work, but you get what you pay for.

Sucky things:
I had no phone in my room and had to use the front desk hotel to make calls.
Bed was not comfortable and quite short even for me (I’m about 5.5)
Bedding was clean but definitely not luxurious
No internet, though there is something like an internet café without the refreshments not too far from the hotel (head toward Termini station and take your third left, just a few shops down)
Breakfast was a bun, jam and juice, though it’s so hot there I couldn’t eat much anyway
The evening hotel clerk doesn’t speak English well at all and hung up on my husband, I think just due to not understanding he was asking for me

For me it was fine, but I would shell out a few more bucks to stay somewhere else if I visited Rome again.

  • Liked — The violin player that scerenaded me to sleep every night from across the street, location and the friendly front desk agent
  • Disliked — basic, basic, basic
