We are a heterosexual couple in our mid 50's who recently stayed at the Roma Park Hotel. We always book inexpensive 2 and 3 star hotels when traveling. We would rate this hotel a nice 3 star. Our very clean room was good size with 2 twin beds, TV, and a desk/chair. A kitchenette including sink, 2 burner stove (no cooking utensils), and minibar frig(room enough to put your own drinks into) was built into a cabinet. There was also a wardrobe closet. All built ins were hidden by cabinet doors. Our private bath included a bidet and shower (no tub). Bath towels were large and thick. We saw men repairing the air conditioning system which was not working our entire 7 day stay. Bedroom windows opened but you could latch the shutters over the open windows for privacy and safety. The elevator was small but adequate for two people and luggage. Breakfast buffets included ham, cheese, hardboiled eggs along with the usual juices, cereals, fruits. and rolls. Its dining area was clean, pleasant, and spacious. We were charged 12 cents per local telephone call, however if you wanted to order pizza delivery the desk clerk will do so for you and not charge you for the call (go down to the desk with your request). There is a grocery store a couple blocks from the hotel where you can also buy beer and wine. Yes, the location isn't the greatest but very managable and safe. Two different bus lines can be caught around the corner from the hotel (bus stop called Macedoni), avoiding a 20 minute uphill walk to the nearest Metro (subway) stop which is Furio Camillo. Rather, take bus #665 towards the San Giovanni bus stop. Get off there and walk half way around the church to find the Metro stop also called San Giovanni (Line A) and proceed on the subway to your destination. Bus line #628, also caught on the Macedonia bus stop around the corner of the hotel, will take you directly into the city center where you can easily walk to its attractions. Try to avoid riding the bus or Metro when the locals are taveling to/from work, it is extemely crowded. A transpotation ticket can be purchased at the tobacco shop near the hotel or in many other locations. One costs .75 euros, about a $1, and can be used on both the bus and Metro (subway) lines for as many times as you want during a 75 minute time period once it is validated. We bought a weekly pass which was good for 7 consecutive days and cost about $15. One early evening we rode the entire route 628 for a pleasant and inexpensive outing (took about 2 hours). It took us along the Tiber, past many city center attractions and ruins, and through several different neighborhoods. There is a shuttle service which the desk clerk can arrange for you to the airport. The cost was 48 euros for up to 4 people. We really got a good pricing deal for staying 7 nights at the Roma Park and found it quite pleasant and more than adequate.
