Having arrived at Fiumicino airport and picked up our Hire Car, we drove to the Carpedium Roma Golf Club, via the Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA) exiting at junction 11 (via Nomentana) just after which we passed a supermarket on the right, which we used for groceries. At the large roundabout we took the second turning (as the first turning takes you back to the GRA) and then took the first turning at the smaller roundabout, the Carpedium Golf Club is on the approx 400 yds on the left.
After checking in we went to the club for meet and greet drinks, all the staff was welcoming and answered all our questions. The next morning we drove to Rebibbia off via Tiburtina and parked at the MetRo Car Park. We bought our 7-day MetRo tickets at the MetRo station and then explored Rome for the next three days commuting by car the short distance from the Carpedium to Rebibbia (this journey took on average 20 minutes. although you have to be a confident driver to cope with the Italian way of driving).
For the rest of the week we explored further south down to Pompeii, Naples and Monte Cassino using the Toll Autostrada's.
The nearest ATM is at the Bancomat in the nearby village about 3 miles away on the road to Santa Lucia - Palombara.
We found the flat clean and functional, with the rooms cleaned daily, the only draw back was taking the card that you have to slot in to get electricity, out of the complex with you as this is used by the gate staff to allow entrance back into the complex.
The scenery around Carpedium is pleasant though not awe-inspiring. The staffs were always polite and although most did not speak English, this was not a barrier to communication. The television was basic and local; however, English television was available in the club on request.
Overall, the costs at staying here were as expected, every RCI that we have vacationed at, have numerous charges not dissimilar to the Carpedium.
Lessons to be learnt are to have your own hire car (there is ample free parking in the underground car park at Carpedium) and explore Rome by MetRo and bus from the nearest MetRo station (parking is €1.50 per day).
We stayed at the Carpedium betwen the 4 - 11th November 2006.
