Hello travellers,
I have just returned from The Internation Palace, Rome. This wasnt a hotel I researched very well, rather I went with travel agent recommendation.
For me, this hotel would be an average hotel in a good location. The rooms are unfortunately decorated in a very outdated fashion which gave it the appearance of being old and shabby even though it clearly was recently done. I found the rooms to be of a good size but with a small window making it very dark. I also found out the in this hotel (maybe others) they do not switch the AC on until may. Using the wall thermostat I could tell the it was somewhere between 25-30 degrees celcius.. Not acceptable temperature for sleeping. The next morning I asked for it to be switched on and I was given a story which a staff member later confirmed as a lie where I was told that guests have complained that the AC was too cold.. In reality they just dont turn it on to keep cost down. I was told to open a window to keep cool, however being on a very busy street it was too noisy with 27/7 traffic and sirens etc. I was moved to a quieter room which was just as nosiy but after being persistent with complaining they switched the AC on.. kind of !!
We had breakfast every morning and 2 out of the 3 mornings the Maître de was very poor, not making eye contact, not chat and just pointed you to a dirt table. She spent most of the time standing around while the rest of the staff were falt out and couldnt keep up. As a result of what I would say being understaffed there was serious issues with teh breakfast. We had trouble getting plates and quiet often had broken plates offered, we couldnt get cutlery in general it was just a chaotic scene.
No for the positives, the location of this hotel is excellent. 2-3 minutes walk to the main train station, I would say 10 minutes to the Coliseum, 30 mins to the vatican and easily with minutes of all the sites and shopping areas.
Would I stay again? probably not ! Would I recommend it ? Maybe but its only ok as a hotel..
Happy travels.
