We chose the Pinewood Hotel as we found an amazing rate for it on Lastminute[--]. I looked on Trip Advisor and the reviews were mixed- but because of the price we decided to go for it. HOWEVER... The reviews were right. The hotel was ok- but not great.

When we arrived at the hotel we realised we were quite far outside of the historical centre. Some people had said that the area around the hotel was nice, but it isn't. The hotel is on a main road, the famous pinewoods is a shabby green with a few trees on it and the location is basically a big bus depot and an area where the locals live. The transport links are good- the metro is very quick but it stops at 9:30. You can get a bus (number 49) from the other side of the river (near Piazza Navona)- so that wasn't too bad. But you are still at least 20 minutes away from the nearest nice place to go out in! Personally we thought it would've been more beneficial to stay closer and pay more- yes we saved allot of money, but it wasn't worth it.

If the hotel had been closer it would have been better. The hotel was nice enough. We had a renovated room and a Jacuzzi bath. But the builders kept us awake and the walls are very thin, so you can hear people talking in the corridors very clearly.

The staff were not helpful at all. We asked about a water park and were sent on our merry ways, only to get there and it was closed (the concierge didn't even bother to check the opening times). We came back to the hotel and then got redirected to the beach (which was a nice break from the heat of the city)... but the experience cost us over £80 and the concierge didn't even apologise! The next day we asked about transport links to the airport- no one was able to give us very good advise. We managed to get there, but no thanks to them!

All in all the hotel was ok, but that's as much praise as I can give it. Its not a good looking hotel, the breakfast is pretty poor, the rooms are nice, the Jacuzzis are a bonus, the location is too far out and the staff are slack!

You get what you pay for!!!

We stayed in the pinewood in June 2005. It is 10-15 minutes walk from the nearest metro station. Located in a busy surburb. The room were we stayed was awful. The carpet was dirty and stuffy, the bed wasn't comfortable, the walls and ceiling were covered in a horrible old wallpaper. The breakfast was ok, but not something i looked forward to. On the last day I took the stairs instead of the lift I noticed that some floors had been recently renovated, so maybe this is why there are so many contrasting reviews. There is a bus terminal nearby so there is a number of buses to the vatican and other parts of rome. When we stayed there it was extremely hot and on one or two occasions we went back to the hotel to rest. It was a little too far from the centre of rome and it wasn't a nice place to return to for some rest.

We recently returned from a 5 night stay at the Pinewood Hotel in Rome, Italy. The accomodations were very nice. There were 5 family members and we had a family room, which consisted of 2 bedrooms and one bath.

The staff was very knowledgeable about the area and the bus stops and how to get around. When we arrived we were very hungry. Breakfast hours were over and that is the only meal they serve, however, they prepared a meal for us and it was the best meal we had while in Rome.

My 76 year old mother was with us and did not feel well one day while we were there. She felt safe enough to stay there alone. I told the staff that she was upstairs and not feeling well and we would be gone part of the day. The staff checked on her and even got some food for her. She was very happy with the time she spent alone there.

We had an early morning flight and the hotel arranged a driver to pick us up and get us to the airport on time.

There is some remodeling going on, however, that did not bother us, it was on the other floors and there was no noise early in the morning or late at night. It was a very pleasant experience.

Also, the breakfast was awesome.

We would definitely stay there again!!

Thanks for all your kindness to us.

My husband and I stayed at the Pinewood hotel around valentines day as a special treat. The hotel is miles from Ciampino airport and cost us 60 euros to get there as we arrived at night we didn't want to use the metro. We stayed on the third floor and was reasonably quiet. The breakfast was OK although continental, you could help yourself to as much as you liked. The dining room was cold as was the bar area. The hotel manager recommended a restaurant close to the hotel which was absolutely rubbish (Lo chef it is called. The food was awful and took ages to arrive (my husband and I actually ate our meals separately as it took so long). There are no other restaurants within acceptable walking distance.

Hi just got back from Rome, stayed at the Pinewood, old fashioned with 'ragrolling'paintwork and a lift that was straight out of a horror movie! No tea/coffee facilities in the room, dont get a room on the fifth floor or at the front of the hotel as although there was double glazing it was SO noisy! On a good point the room was very very clean and the staff are friendly and very helpfull a good selection at breakfast time but its continental. The hotel is a little away from restraunts the area is safe if you are with someone and is a good 10 min walk from the Metro which is easy to find and so handy(be very carefull and have eyes in the back of your head pickpockets are rife, we didnt have a problem but we knew of people who did!its the kids that are the problem)get a 4 euro day ticket and use it all day on the buses and metro. Alternatively get the number 49 bus outside the hotel to the Vatican and walk from there to all the sites, it definiatly is do able.
Have a great time the sights are great!
