I booked the hotel after seeing all the positive reviews, and I was not disappointed. The hotel is a great value.

The price (about 100 usd/nite) was good for Rome. The room was small but quite comfortable (avg size for Europe), with a big bathroom (my tub was a Jacuzzi). They had wiFi with middle-of-the-road prices and a computer in the lobby (wasn't working while I was there). There was a nice small bar, and the staff were very helpful (I asked for something everyday). The breakfast was good (good scrambled eggs, pastries) except for the juice machine (watery).

The location wasn't a problem for me via public transportation. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the station, and a 10-15 minute ride to Termini. So, despite the fact that the hotel is on the periphery of Rome, access was not a problem at all. When you get off the Cornelia station, you need to walk south toward the park (or total darkness if you're arriving at night) and the hotel will be on your left. The park was nice, esp. in the morning. The hotel is quiet, despite its approx. to the main road, and away from the crowds.

There are some services near the train station. The pizza place was delicious (green "pizza kebab" sign). The restaurant next to the pizza place also seemed to be good (it was often packed), but I didn't eat there.

As opposed to many hotels in Italy, it was more expensive to book directly than via Expedia / Orbitz, so check those sites out when you book the hotel.

All in all, a very nice hotel, a great value, wonderful staff

Stayed at The Pinewood on the first evening of our trip to Umbria. The hotel is located to the West of The Vatican on a hill overlooking Rome. It is easy to reach off the GRA (ring road) and is conveniently close to the metro and bus routes for the centre of town. There is a large car park.

The hotel is modern and clean and the rooms are spacious. There is no pool (which is a shame as this would make a real difference). However, staff are friendly and helpful and there is a great breakfast including proper scrambled egg!

Now we have found the hotel I am sure that we will return.

Transfered from Waldorf Hotel due to a problem ( Waldorf handled it very well, arranged taxi and apologised, arranged 2 night stay at the Pinewood). Have to say we were very pleased as the hotel is set in a lovely quiet area only 10 mins stroll to Cornelia metro and then 10 mins into Vatican and another 10 mins into Termini. Great room, very clean and well equiped with lovely bathroom. Even after a very hectic day seeing the sights of Rome the hotel was a very welcome sight when we returned and had a great night sleep and set for the next day. Comfy beds and very quiet allow for a relaxing time...

Seriously reccomend this as my wife and I had a fantastic time...

Forget central Rome, expensive prices, noisy roads, people making noise...spend a little time to travel and enjoy the Pinewood Hotel...

Hotel was very clean and tidy which is approximately 10 minutes walk from the metro. This is an ideal location for staying in Rome if you do not want to pay the expensive prices of central Rome. The bar in the hotel was expensive but there are plenty of local bars and resaurants which are very reasonable. When you come of the metro the easyest way to find the hotel is to look for the pine wood trees and walk towords them , hence the name of the hotel. We spent 2 night before are cruse family room for two adults and 2 teens 16, and13. This room had 2 seperate bedroms 1 double and two singles.
