Great, non-tourist location, easy to reach the city center. Spacious and clean room-great view (trees etc.). The room and the view was exactly as on the hotel's website virtual tour. Friendly staff. I would stay there again.

Internet booking was fairly easy but hard to determine what exact room I was getting. Upon arrival I realized I had been given the nightmare room I'd read about in another review.

Tiny, window opened onto narrow, dark courtyard. The office was right below so I could hear the phone ringing constantly. No AC so the window had to be open...which allowed all the mosquitoes in. The shower was a corner of the room with just a flimsy, torn curtain as separation. Terrible room, a complete rip off.

I complained to the largely non-English speaking staff. Only after a half day of being passed off to various members of the family/owners did I get a different room. This one was great, nice views, separate bathroom, decent kitchenette. I was set for the rest of my visit.

Checking out was a nightmare. The details are complicated but largely due to communication difficulties I ended up paying for an extra day just to get the process over with.

In short, if you can get a nice room the place is great for those looking for an independent travel experience. Rates are very reasonable. If you don't speak Italian expect difficulties. Location is so-so, the closest metro is on the line that closes early and lively neighborhoods and dining are a 15/20 minute walk away. There is a very reasonable internet site nearby.

Finally, don't trust the shuttles that offer round trip service. When I arrived at the airport I paid for a ride to Villa Tassoni and pickup a week later. Day of departure, no shuttle, no one answered the phone at the given number. I had to make a dash down the street for a taxi.

Those more seasoned in travel to Rome might not have my difficulties with Villa Tassoni. I suspect newbies will. I don't think I'll stay there again.

My partner and I stayed at Villa Tassoni for two weeks over Easter 2006. We had booked online direct with the hotel, paid our deposit and had no problems.... until we arrived.

Getting into the hotel was fine, the owner was pretty abrupt (but I’m sure that was just his charming manner!) ...we had to settle the rest of our payment by debit card on arrival...but it seems the Italians are not so up on chip and pin, the owner told us he could not accept payment because he had to put a password into the machine and he didn't know it so we would have to pay cash....we tried to explain that it was our pin which needed to be input...he didn't seem so happy, not entirely sure why!...but finally allowed us into his tiny, tiny office to complete the transaction.

We were then taken upstairs to our room and briefly shown around. The room wasn't entirely what we expected.....we were self catering but the room lacked a cooked/grill...(limiting us to boiled/fried food!!) when we asked the owner said we had been given the room we asked for and he couldn't move us anywhere else because all rooms were full.

The light in the bathroom didn't work but we were assured that it would be fixed the following day (which it was) but in the meantime we were left with live wires hanging out of the wall.

The bathroom shower also lacked hot water and was not very suitable for anyone over 5'10" as the shower head was at a very low level and could not be moved at all (I am nearing 6foot and my partner is 6’3”)

The room was clean and to a satisfactory level, with a lovely balcony surrounded by trees, loads of wardrobe space.

On the first night whilst unpacking though my partner was sat on the end of the bed perusing the local TV channels when the bed collapsed beneath him! On further inspection the bed frame seemed to have been welded together from a previous breakage. He tried to pull the bed legs back into place but sliced his arm on a large piece of metal sticking out from the frame. We went downstairs (with his bleeding arm wrapped crudely in the medical supplies I had with me) only to find that no one but the porter was around (who spoke no English) we tried to explain what had happened and were ushered into a small room with a sink where the porter dabbed my partners arm with some damp toilet paper…realising this would not suffice he recommended we go to the hospital, but couldn’t tell us where the nearest one was!…We wandered outside, looked up and saw right next door a huge neon green cross, we walked into the reception area not really having any idea of where we were, flashed my partners wound at the receptionist and were whisked away by a doctor. I don’t think it was a hospital….but the staff were very useful and stitched his arm up.

There was no management at our apartment because they were on holiday over Easter, our bed was replaced by the porter, but was nothing better than a camping bed.

The bus stop outside the villa was excellent though, we caught the 913 everyday into the centre of Rome…we were also very close to a number of restaurants, supermarkets, bakery etc.

The location of Villa Tassoni is very nice; it is just a shame about the experiences we had.

We would not visit again.

We were attracted to the Villa from the virtual tour offered on the internet site. We were looking forward to get to Villa Tassoni to relax and enjoy Rome. On arrival in 90 degree heat the villa was locked and no amount of ringing on the Reception bell would bring any response, so we were left standing in the street. Eventually we were let in by an elderly gentleman who said the receptionist had gone for a walk! When he did arrive about 20 minutes later he told us we should have rung first... we were not instructed to do this on the paperwork. We checked in at reception which was no more than a pokey office and were taken to our double room. As soon as we walked in the smell hit you, it was musty and dirty, the walls were covered in mould and when this was pointed out the receptionist said he had not ever noticed it. We asked to be moved to another room but he said he could offer us nothing better, when we said we would not stay there we were told that we would have to pay for our stay whatever. On our insistance that we were mislead by the virtual tour (which he said he knew nothing about) we were eventually moved to another Tassoni residence. It was immediatly apparent that this was where the virtual tour was done - it may have been us that misread the info but whichever way the website is very misleading. This residence was at least clean, except for the pillow cases which were changed upon request. However, there was no air conditioning and in the heat and with the problem of mosquitos our three night stay was to say the least miserable. The rooms are not serviced so from Friday to Monday we had no clean towels and the reception is not manned. I would suggest that the owners of both these residences take a close look at what they are offering. They said the prices were cheap but for what they actually offer I would beg to differ. Rome is beautiful but the Tassoni residences are most certainly not.
