My experience at Residence Villa Tassoni was excellent to say the least. The Villa Tassoni was easier to find then I expected as showing up in a new country and speaking no Italian I was a little concerned about getting lost but I wanted to stay on public transit. Getting off at the Cipro Metro stop and only needing to walk 5-10 min with my luggage was all it took. If I had more luggage, children, or were older I would probably advice a cab from the Metro stop because it is uphill and may be more challenging then I had it travelling alone.

I was greeted by Fabrizio who was expecting me and provide me with all the information I needed about the Residence as well as suggested I could ask him at any time about Rome or what to see and what to maybe avoid. During the whole trip Fabrizio was excellent and seemed very genuine in making sure my stay was a good one. For example when I needed a cork screw he gave me his own from his desk as well he was always friendly and courteous and spoke perfect English.

When I got to my room I was surprised by a few things. One is how large the suite was (2 floors) and how clean it was. This was a very simple room and one must be aware of what they are dealing with when staying at the Residence Villa Tassoni You are staying in a Residence that can be rented for long term or short term stays. This is not a hotel with a doorman, room service and someone waiting on the phone to help you out 24/7 with minor things. What you are getting is a very safe, clean, simple and friendly residence in a great location. Being only 5-10 min form the Metro station by foot and then being able to travel the whole city from there is a big bonus. The residence is inexpensive and has some great qualities provided you know or understand the difference between a full service hotel and a residence. The hot water tank in my own room as well as fast high speed internet (not wireless in all rooms including mine so bring a network cable as they are not easy to find or explain what you want in stores) was perfect. In future tips to Rome I would stay here again and would suggest it to anyone not wanting or needing all the luxuries of an expensive full service hotel.

Stayed for two weeks ... clean, prompt service and homely. Very near the Bar, Tabacchi, Pizzeria, Fermatta ... excellent jump off point to the Vatican. Service with a smile. Fabrizzio and Sebastiano are gems.

We wanted a 4* hotel near the Vatican or in central Rome, for under US$200 a night - so maybe we were asking a lot - what we got was a suite (bedroom plus living room, with the bare minimum in furniture) in a lovely residential part of Rome - far away from the tourist area which suited us just fine (although it is A REAL HIKE from any of the tourist attractions, apart from the Vatican) - and 2 km up a hill, so if you have trouble walking, this isn't for you. Having said that, there are plenty of buses that can take you there - and there are GREAt non-touristy restaurants thereabout - so the area is great. The suite was pretty poor - enough hot water for only one of us to shower - and not even a bar of soap ANYWHERE!!!! I've never stayed anywhere in my life where there hasn't been a tiny bar of soap somewhere. But no, nothing in sight. Supposedly self-contained - with stovetop/hob, sink, fridge etc., but no cleaning supplies anywhere, not a sponge in sight - nothing - so if you make crumbs, you can't even clean up. VERY basic accommodation - 2* at best - but it was very clean - and again, the area could not have been better. Found some wonderful coffee shops where they greeted us like locals and made us feel at home - not like Central Rome where they treated tourists like second class citizens.... so would we stay there again? Probably not, we'd prefer somewhere more central, where it doesn't take 45 mins by cab to get home (when there's no traffic)....but if there wasn't something available in Central Rome - then sure. Great free internet access in lobby, using their computer.

  • Liked — clean, free internet access, great residential neighborhood
  • Disliked — location (miles away from anything), not a bar of soap or shampoo in sight, not enough hot water, bare essentials in room, a/c didn't work properly

We weren't expecting much. A clean room, comfortable bed, shower with hot water, soap, plenty of towels, and a clock.

We got...
a tiny oom
cold water
tons of towels

It was the bare minimum. BARE. The staff responded promptly when we informed them that our hot water was lacking....but the next day it ran out again.

The location is ok. Not amazing. We wanted to save money so we really didn't care about the quality of the property. But hot water and a comfortable bed really are two things we weren't willing to compromise on.

Won't make this mistake again.

Sorry there are no photos - our camera broke before we could document anything :)

  • Liked — Hard to say. The towels were good.
  • Disliked — Everything else.

I stayed in Villa Tassoni, Via Medaglie D'Ore 138 from 25th August to Mid December 2007 while I was a studying in Rome. I choose this residence because the alternatives were far too expensive for a prolonged stay. I had a studio apartment and I was so thrilled with it. It comprised a bathroom, bedroom and kitchenette where one could prepare a light meal. I had cable TV, a direct phone link to my room and a free broadband connection. Initially, I was not able to connect my computer because of the difference in the connections between Italy and my country but it was immediately dealt with by the staff. One man allowed me to share his wireless connection until the adapter for my computer was got. The house was always kept spotless and my room was cleaned every day with bed linen and towels changed twice a week. Since the weather got cold in mid October the place was beautifully heated which made it very comfortable.
I found a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere among the staff and management. The studio was very secure and that was important to me since I was alone. The local area was quiet yet every type of shop and amenity was available there.
Transport in Rome is excellent and buses and Metro lines were so easily accessible from Villa Tassoni. From the Termini Station in central Rome you can go to almost any where in Europe. Visiting Rome is a tremendous experience and it was an added bonus to live in the Villa which has an old world charm though very comfortably maintained.
During my stay I met people from many different parts of the world and they also spoke of the tremendous experience it is to visit Rome and be able to get to places of interest so easily. Granted there were crowds of tourists everywhere so it was a welcome relief to withdraw from the hustle and bustle back to the peace and quiet of the Villa on some occasions. I found Rome to be such a marvelous experience and if I ever had a chance to visit Rome again I would certainly stay at Villa Tassoni.... so affordable, a really tremendous place to stay.
