I'm glad I didn't read all these horrible reviews before my trip to Rome or we wouldn't have stayed here. We arrived in Rome with a list of hotels and no reservations. After walking around past numerous hotels that were either sold out or over 200 euros, we stumbled on Hotel Republica. We asked to see the room before accepting and was a little put off by the hardness of the bed but choose to stay here as we were tired of searching. We really had no problems whatsoever with our stay. The "hard" bed was actually fine to sleep on - not uncomfortable surprisingly. The room was huge (we had a triple) with high (15 foot plus ceilings). Decor was a little dated but room and bathroom were very clean. There is some noise from outdoors but after a busy day in Rome, we had no trouble falling asleep. Breakfast was a variety of pastries and meats, cereal and yogurt - actually a better assortment than most hotels we stayed at during our two weeks in Italy. All-in-all this was a pretty good deal for the price (150 euro) in a city know for expensive hotels. Hotels was also right on the main bus (64) route to St. Peters and within a couple blocks of the Trevi Fountain. Victor Emmanuel building can be seen from Via Nazionale which runs in front of hotel and Forum and Colosseum a short walk down that street also. Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a clean cheap hotel and is not looking for anything fancy.
