I highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again without hesitation!

One negative you may think is that the hotel is not in the center of Rome. However, if you have ever been to Rome and experienced the hustle and bustle of it all, you may not want to be in the middle of it!

The hotel is located in a very nice neighborhood. The hotel is set back from the street which affords it a very quiet atmosphere. Additionally the Policlinico metro stop is literally one block away. The metro can get you to all the key tourist attractions.

The rooms are very clean and modern. We had a room with 2 twin beds and the bathroom was luxurious with a sauna tub / shower combo. Both the main room and bathroom were extremely large for European standards.

Hotel staff was very friendly and spoke English very well.

The free breakfast each morning on the roof patio was such a great service since we really didn't see any breakfast options near the hotel. And what a spread of food they had out!

Wireless internet access is available for EUR 6 an hour. The wireless connection is solid but their internet connection times out often and runs a bit slow.

  • Liked — Quiet, clean, modern, convenient and friendly staff!
  • Disliked — Nothing

I wish I had spoken to somebody who had stayed in Rome personally prior to booking this hotel. I didn't know the location well enough beforehand to make an educated decision. The hotel is fairly new (we were told less than 10 years...practically unheard of in Rome!!) so in terms of cleanliness and comfort, it far surpassed the other hotels we stayed at on our two week honeymoon in Italy. (The bed was the best we had on our entire trip). Also, the air-conditioning worked great, and it was quiet enough to have your window open at night.

However, the website somewhat lead me to believe that it was considered to be near the Spanish Steps. I guess it was more near the Steps than say, Minneapolis, but to bill it as being near something you have to take two subways to get to is a bit of a stretch in my opinion. It is directly across from the Policlinco metro stop, which was easy to hop on, but it is the B subway line, and everything but the Coliseum is on the A line, which means more time to be exposed to pick-pocketing gypsies (we were one of the few couples on our Vatican tour that wasn't pickpocketed...these people are AMAZING thieves!!)

There were not very many restaurants nearby either, although we were within walking distance to Villa Borghese (fabulous museum...for sure book a reservation in advance!). We generally hopped on the subway with our Rick Steves guide (you need this one for Italy if you don't have it already) and went to a recommended restaurant for dinner instead.

The best advice we received prior to going to Rome was to book a Vatican tour (you can do this online by googling "Vatican Tours" ...there are a ton) and this really made all of the difference of enjoying the museum. Some tour groups surpass the line completely (look for this on their website). Ours did not and we were worried about the huge lines we had heard about, but our tour was scheduled at 1pm, which is not a busy time for the museum. There was no line to get in...we were told first thing in the morning is the WORST time to go.

If you're a subway savvy person and want to be away from the hustle and bustle of Rome, this is a great hotel for you.

  • Liked — Comfortable bed and great shower
  • Disliked — Location further away from "touristy thing" than would have liked

We stayed at Villa Morgagni in early May 2007 and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We arrived early lunch time and although our room was not ready we used this time to book some trips. Alessandra the Receptionist could not be more helpful and within 5 mins we had booked a trip to the Vatican with Green Line Tours and a walking tour with Enjoy Italy. This was quite a relief as we didn't want to be wandering round the streets of Rome looking for the sites or missing them completly. This was probably the best thing we did as Green Line picked us up from the hotel and the guide had us in and out of the Vatican by noon. Please, please whatever you do don't try and queue up with the masses to see the Sistine Chapel, pay the extra and go with a tour. Once we exited the Vatican Museum there must have been AT LEAST a 2 hour wait to get in if you were doing it yourself.

We had the top room, room 401 and although small, everything was spotless and everything matched and well looked after. The benefit of this room was it had an enormous terrace, probably larger than the room itself, this was adjacent to the terraced kitchen area which you didn't notice as it was screened off. The terrace was lovely and the afternoon it didn't rain we managed to sunbathe. The bed was very comfy and we thought larger than a kingsize, we had clean towels everyday of our stay, the bath was a delight as it had a jacuzzi which did create lots of bubbles.

The room was air conditioned, but the area in which the hotel is situated is very quiet so you wouldn't hear any street noise.

We thought the location suited us, it was very quiet, only 2 stops on the Metro from the main areas, so although you couldn't just walk out to restaurants the hotel recommended a family Trattoria down the road which we both agreed was the best food we had and probably half of the cost of the more commercial areas.

So if you are not bothered by jumping on the Metro (buy one ticket for the whole time you are there) or the fact it is slightly out of the way, go to this hotel, away from the madding crowds. We jumped in taxis a few times when the Metro was closed and it only cost 6 Euros to get back. Everyone was very friendly the terrace breakfast terrace was lovely, I can imagine in the Summer it is great, the scrambled egg and bacon fab.

ENJOY

Date 23rd March 2007 - Four days in Rome first time of using trip advisor.
Villa Morgagni looked reasonable and I booked on the basis of the reviews I had read. I am glad to say we had a super time, yes the rooms are a tad small but they were clean, fresh and our en-suite also had a bath, a must for hours of slogging the streets of Rome. I had read that the receptionist could be a little frosty and I guess they weren't 'all over us' but they were professional and polite and everything went without a hitch. We found some super places to eat only 10 minutes walk away fairly cheap and family run, a real taste of italy.
The breakfasts were well laid out on the covered roof terrace which gave some good views of the hill in the distance. Yummy pastries, and enough to fill up until super-time, if you were greedy enough, the lady who ran this area was very sweet and more than happy to re-fill coffee and cakes.
Also 2 minutes from the metro station, very useful to get a 3 day ticket only 11 euros. Strolled around am and pm, never felt threatened or at risk.
Would visit Villa Morgagni again.

What a lovely little hotel, rooms although compact , were beautifully furnished and very clean. When I return I will probably upgrade to a larger room for extra comfort. Bathroom spotless.
Breakfast room was very nice and food very good for a European style continental breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Hotel is a few minutes walk to the metro which is easy to use and takes you to most of the sights. There are also some good local restaurants if you don't want to go into the city centre every night. Taxi from city centre costs between eight and twelve Euros.
We had a great time in Rome and it was great to come back to this quiet haven at night.
