The hotel is not in the city centre, but it's only 5 minutes walk from Piazza Bologna station. Piazza Bologna is not a touristy area so it's nice and quiet and you can actually experience the daily life of the local people. There are enough nice bars (cafes) with as well as restaurants for dining options and because the area is not a tourist area, you are paying reasonable prices (not tourist prices).
Hotel's staffs are also friendly and helpful, rooms are comfortable and very clean.
Next time in Rome, we know this is the place that we'll choose to stay.

We stayed at this hotel in June 2007. I got a good deal through accorhotels.com which turned out to be quite a bit cheaper than most hotels in the main tourist areas. It's a chain hotel but I like this as you usually can expect a certain standard.

The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from Bologna metro station which is only a 3 stops to Termini and 5 to Colloseo so only takes a few minutes to get there. The only downside is that Metro line B stopped at around 10ish so you'd need to get a taxi or bus after this time. There are regular buses from Termini to Plaza Bologna though.

The hotel is contemporary in design and although our room wasn't big, it was adequate for our needs and very clean. The bar area is very small though and is basically just a few seats off reception. We just used it to have a nightcap before heading up to our room.

Breakfast in the hotel was quite good with a selection of hot and cold items, juice, coffee etc and the dining room was never too crowded. I don't think the hotel serves evening meals but we either ate more centrally in Rome or at a couple of local restaurants. If you can cope with going to a place where they only speak Italian (you are in Italy after all), then there's a great little place a couple of streets away. I can't remember the name of it but the hotel reception told us about it. There's also another restaurant between the hotel and the metro (easier found if you walk past the school).

I felt safe in the area surrounding the hotel. There are several shops, selling clothes, bags, food etc just around the corner, and there is a school/kindergarten next door.

I would happily stay at this hotel again as it was easy to get to and from. We got a taxi from Ciampino airport, which cost us double late on a Sunday night so beware of that! However, we did the return journey by metro to Anagnina then got a bus to the airport for a couple of euros....much cheaper, although it can be a bit tricky with suitcases on a packed metro.

Stayed there December 29-January 2, during my first visit to Rome.

The location is not exactly in the heart of Rome, but it is just a couple of blocks from the subway, so no complaints there. It is actually in a less touristy area which was fun to explore, and there were a couple of nice neighborhood restaurants nearby.

The building itself and the rooms were typical Mercure. Nothing special, but generally modern and nice. The room was relatively spacious, with a large and comfy bed and a large bathroom. There were a few signs of wear and tear here and there, but the room was overall well kept.

The front desk staff were generally helpful and friendly. It was an overall pleasant experience and a good value.

This hotel was by far the best part of our travels through Europe. We began in London, then Paris, and then enter the Mercure! WOW! The hotel is in a quite area of west Rome near the university. Great reception area, bar area, dining room. The rooms were by far the largest of all we stayed in. Corner room with view of the street on the 4th floor. The decor was very sheik and very comfortable. Flat Panel TV with speakers even in the bathroom ceiling for your listening pleasure. Bathroom was HUGE, beautiful blue tile!!! I was so very impressed by this Hotel for so many reasons! The bar area, very nice, cozy and bartenders very friendly and eager to speak with anyone. We spent two evenings in the bar before venturing out to dinner, talking with the bartender and exchanging stories of our culture and he about his. It was a great experience! Reception staff was also amazing. One evening I negelected to close my room door all the way and the front desk clerk actually called to inform me of this and asked if i was ok. I was very impressed. Tube station close by, several great restaurants and beautiful piazzas.

We booked this hotel as we were looking for a relatively cheap option in a good location in rome. The hotel is not located in the historic center of rome (if that's what you're looking for, do not book here). The place is located near piazza bologna - this is 2 stops from the termini on line b of the roman metro.

The metro station is about 150m away, and very close. The nighborhood nearby is actually very suburban, there are a few cafes, restaurants were far and few. There is a very good restaurant i prehistorici which is located very close to the restaurant - a local favorite it seemed as everyone else was italian - their seafood pasta was to die for and very reasonably priced. Otherwise, however there was not the tourist bustle that you would expect.

Rooms were standard Mercure hotel rooms - clean beds, quiet room, a refrigerator, TV, night stands, and nice bathroom. room was average sized for europe. Safe was also included. No free internet, breakfast was extra 6 euros for italian, 13 euros for continental breakfast. did not try anything at the hotel cafe/bar so can not comment on the food.

For its location and being so close to historic center of rome, it was a great buy and bargain. There is an internet point across from the hotel with much better internet rates (2 euros/hour vs. the 32cents/minute they were going to charge).

i would stay at this hotel again, but be warned that there is not much to do nearby. I would give the hotel 2-3 star rating.
