Where to start.......the staff at Ave Roma Salvo, Vera and Diana made us feel at home.

We split our stay at this hotel arriving for 3 nights and then staying another 3 nights at the end of 2 plus weeks of visiting Italy. We used two different rooms.

We arrived at Ave Roma at 8 am, weary from our trip from the USA. Weary from the time change and jet lag, Vera placed us in a room to take a nap. Check-in was not unitl the afternoon. She made us feel most welcomed.

We met the Manager Salvo later that night who made us feel at home. We developed a "kinship" with Vera and Salvo. They went out of their way to assist us with our discovery of Rome. They did this with all of the guests we spoke to.

The hotel is only 8 rooms, each somewhat different. Each room is sound proofed with cloth covered walls and double windows to keep out the street noise. The beds are top notch, and quite firm. The baths are in excellent shape with new fixtures. Salvo takes pride in running the place and told me that they steam clean the wall coverings every 3 months. He has been at the hotel for 7 years and will give you his cell number if you need anything. We stayed in 5 different hotels during our 3 weeks in Italy and Ave Roma was the best. A hidden gem.

The breakfast area is small and can only handle 6 people at a time. Ave Roma offers breakfast in your room if you want. The area has a large screen LCD TV and they offer juices, cafe, fruit, dry cereal, cookies and some sort of cake along with other stuff. It satisfied us each morning.

Ave Roma has a hidden internet room overlooking the alley behind the hotel. I always visited this space to read up on news.

Ave Roma is situated in the historic part of Rome and do not expect to find a large sign out front. The sign on the front of the building is about 1 foot by 1 foot if that. Local laws prohibit anything larger.

The hotel is a 5 minute walk to Piazza Novonna and is within walking distance the Castle, Vatican, Steps, Trevi Fountain, Palatine Hill, etc. You couldn't ask for a better location in a historic city.

This is a hotel that makes you want to come back to Rome.

I researched for weeks on where to stay for my 5 day trip to Rome. This one was short-listed due to the great reviews and then spotted an amazing value offer on a late-deal website which swung it for me. I am so glad I went for it and on reflection would have been happy to pay much more than I did!
Salvo greeted me and my partner on our arrival and couldn't have been nicer or more attemtive throughout our stay - even showing us clips of movies on youtube! He was the perfect host. I was delighted when he showed us to our room (5) as it was the one I had seen on their website and loved! Four poster bed - beautiful upholstered walls - angel art work.. It was better than it looked on their site actually - much brighter! Even had a small balcony and chair. Everything was spotless in the room and worked fine - air con, mini bar, tv etc. The bathroom was very modern with bath, great shower huge sink and pinstripe blue tiles - towels and toiletries were plentiful and replenished everyday.
Breakfast was served in our room every morning - all we had to do was call front desk - it was croissants, toast, tea, yogurt and cake and absolutely delicious!
the other fabulous thing was the location of this hotel. Salvo gave us a 'tour' of Rome when we got there using a map he gave us to keep. I think he estimated the Colosseum was 40 minutes walk but it was alot closer than that - 25 at most! Everything we wanted to see was easily accessible on foot and never needed to bother with a bus.
so Rome was beautiful - as was this hotel, I will definitely go back to it should I be in Rome again!
The only reason it wasn't perfect is because the room did not have a kettle but this shouldn't bother most people I guess - I just have an unhealthy obsession with tea! There are certainly enoughplaces around to go and buy a cup!

If you stay here, please tell Vera and Salvo that Gwen and Glen said "hi"!

Vera is at the front desk during the day, and goes beyond the usual to help you! She treats you like a good friend. She helped us plan our sight seeing tours each day, and had great restaurant and shopping advice.

Salvo was equally pleasant! A good looking and friendly gentleman that was helpful and very personable. He pointed me to the BEST haircut I've ever gotten. If you do go to italy, I'd recommend saving your hair for Stefan (I hope I've got his name right) at Bohemian (card says - via dell 'Orso, 79 - Roma... tel. [-]). Amazing place and soooo nice. but couldn't talk them into coming back to the states when I need a haircut. :)

The hotel is quaint and charming... I do recommend requesting a room on the alley side of the hotel. We started in room 4, which was cute and romantic... but is somewhat noisier on the street side of the hotel. When we moved to room 6 (more expensive we were told, but worth it I'd say- on the alley side) we LOVED it and would definitely ask for that room next time. If you are expecting fancy perks and plush surroundings - find a fancier chain type hotel or something... you won't be happy here. BUT, if you are looking for Italian charm, personal care from friendly staff, and the perfect location - stay here. You'll feel like family.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights, and have to stay it was better than expected. Having trawled through lots of websites to find a central hotel that we could afford, I don't think we could of found better. We stayed in a superior room (nr 6), which was lovely. Nice big comfy bed, table and chairs, sofa bed and nice bathroom. Everything was clean and well cared for. Vera (the housekeeper) was excellent at welcoming us, and advising of the best places to visit while we were there, and where to eat. Breakfast was perfectly good with croissants, cakes, coffee, cereal etc.
The location was great - 2 mins to Piazza Navona, and 10 mins to Vatican. We walked everywhere during our 4 days here - nothing is further than 20 mins walking.
It was my partner's birthday while we were there, and Vera organised a bottle of prosecco and 2 champagne glasses for his birthday, which were laid out in our room when we got in - they couldn't do more for you.

Would recommend to anyone as great value for money

This hotel was just magnificent! Being a young and happy couple on our first holiday together, this was the perfect place! The hotel was typical Rome, small, but very beautiful. The staff were so helpful, especially the gentlemen that greated us, he highlighted areas on a map and advised us of where to go when. The staff were so friendly. The breakfast was what was expected, the usual continental food, nothing special though. The rooms were very clean and spacious. The only problem we had, was actually finding the hotel as it really does not look like a hotel from the outside! Luckily, we called the hotel and a member of staff came out and found us to take us there after i was in a foul mood because the taxi driver had completely ripped us off from the train station, this made a good start to our holiday. It is certainly a place for couples and is great value for money. I would reccomend this place to family and friends and also would return there if i were to visit rome again.

  • Liked — The unique decor and the staff
