Most points already well covered - we found the room, en-suite area and beds on the small side. Breakfast OK, rooms etc generally clean. The (mainly vegetable) garden is sited in an old Roman amphitheatre and there are certain days when you can enter and be shown round for a fee. We had a room facing the square and main road and found it very noisy some nights especially on the Saturday when there was a lot of emergency vehicle noise, music blaring and someone playing football outside throughout a large part of the night. Rooms elsewhere may well be much quieter.

  • Liked — unusual positioning, as part of the Basilica
  • Disliked — External noise

We (a family of 4 including 2 teenagers aged 17 and 14) stayed for 4 nights and particularly enjoyed the character and general ambiance of the place. We had a room on the 2nd floor which contained 4 single beds with ensuite facilities and a balcony. The room was very clean and simply but adequately furnished. The buffet breakfasts were good with a wide selection on offer. The only possible criticism was the disappointing orange juice and lack of fruit apart from apples. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The full price, as for most hotels we investigated to stay at fairly near the centre of Rome, is quite steep. However, it's worth searching the internet for special deals out of the main season (including April).

In the evenings there are a number of reasonably priced places to eat located close to the hotel, so one doesn't have to walk far after a tiring day seeing the sights of Rome. The hotel is easy to find being part of the monastery complex attached to the historic Santa Croce in Gerusalemme church. The S. Giovanni Metro station (Line A) is only a ten minute walk away and the Colosseum and Palatine Hill complex is also within easy walking distance (~20 minutes). If you have a spare hour, the National Museum of Musical Instruments, which is next door, is well worth a visit. It has well written information (in English) about the fascinating collection of exhibits.

We stayed here five nights September 2007. I cannot rave enough about this hotel. We loved it ! It is attached to a beautiful church, the rooftop terrace is enormous and the views, you will never forget them. It is very clean. Ask for a room with a balcony. I definitely would stay here again. Also the front desk sells the Romapass and are very helpful with giving you directions for buses, metro etc, Enjoy ! There are photos of Domus Sessorian on a link on my profile page, unfortunately I could not upload them here because the files were too big.

  • Liked — it's character, it didn't feel like you were staying in a hotel. There is church bells, monks chanting, views out of this world.
  • Disliked — a little far from the city center

We are a couple and stayed for four nights in october. It's definetely a special hotel by its setting: part of a bigger complex still inhabited by monks. It's a quiet location which is a relief after a day of noisy Rome. I do love this kind of setting. It's out of the center and therefore not suitable for a rest during the day. On the other hand the colosseum is still within walking distance. It's close to San Giovanni metro which is convenient.
But we were disappointed expecting a four star hotel. We didn't think it's worth the full price (192 euro a night). We booked the place through a travel agent under the name of Villa Domus. Wish I had known the whole name earlier so I would have booked online more cheap. We never stayed in Rome before though, so I can't compare it with other hotels.
The room was small, no chair, noise from the corridor, and I woke up every morning with an aching back due to the matras.Breakfast was okay. But what put us off, was the lack of service. We needed to print our boarding passes for the way back because we booked with online check-in. They just send us away to a internet-place. I felt like the backpacker I used to be only paying much more than before. Not what you expect a four-star hotel to be.
Overall I would not recommend it.

My sister and I toured Sicily and Rome. We enjoyed this hotel the most. Within walking distance of the Piazza San Giovanni, Collosium, Pantheon, and Forum. 15 minutes by car to Vatican. Close to airport. Hotel clerks were all most helpful and spoke english. Very clean. Saw the Pope perform an open air mass 5-10 minute walk away at San Giovanni Piazza.
