Small hotel on quiet side street near busier Piazza Barberini and 15 min walk to Fontana di Trevi. Restaurants and shops are nearby, but look for Internet in other neighorhoods.. Room was typical
European size (small for american standards), but it was all we needed. Our room had a separate room for the toilet and bidet, instead of in the bathroom. A small tv was located in the closet.

Breakfast was served on the top floor on their outside rooftop patio. There are only 3 tables outside so we ate inside once when it was at a busier time. The breakfast lady was very nice and helpful. Only a few slices of bread and cereal, no cheeses/meats or American breakfast.

The location of this hotel was perfect. It was within easy walking distance of the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and Spanish Steps and with the metro being at the bottom of the road it was a short underground ride to the Vatican and the Colloseum.
The reception staff were very helpful and always pleasant.
The rooms were clean and plenty big enough. We stayed in 102 which as mentioned by some others has an 'odour' coming from the bathroom. As the room was mainly a base this didn't bother us too much. Also a spray of deoderant cleared it quite quickly.
The rest of our party stayed on upper floors and had no such problem.
The breakfast was pleasant with options of croissants, rolls, cereal and yoghurt, with tea/coffee and juice. Breakfast can be eaten on the balcony or indoors, and the walk up to the top floor certainly wakes you up for the day ahead!
We also made the most of the top floor balcony for illicit evening drinks! There is no serving bar, however the nearby supermarkets selling Peroni at ~£1 for a pint was much cheaper than the local bars!
Would definitely stay there again, just avoiding room 102.

Absolutely Fantastic - a hidden gem

I'm almost reluctant to review this hotel as it's such a hidden gem I want to keep it all to myself!

This was my third visit to Rome and the previous two hotels that I'd stayed at were both average. This time we were taking my parents along too, one of whom has a disabilty so that was an additional consideration. Therefore we needed a good hotel that was within touching distance of at least some of the sights. After much searching I eventyally settled on this hotel and I was very glad that I did.

There is a small foyer entrance to the hotel and you could walk past it without even realising that it was there. Check in was efficient and friendly. Acess to our rooms on the third floor was either by stairs or lift.

The rooms were fine, clean and tidy with plenty of storage space and comfortable beds. Continental breakfast was great, quite simple but very good. All the staff that we encountered were lovely.

However, probably the best part about the hotel was it's location, it cannot be beaten. It's no more than a couple of minutes walk from the Barbareni Metro stop. From here you can go to the Colloseum or The Vatican and everywhere in between. The Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain are about ten minutes away from the Hotel, and there are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance.

I will definitely return to this hotel :-)

Jan 20, 2008 | Trip type: Friends getaway

Myself and my friend stayed at the hotel Cinquantatre for a five day holiday this last September. Having never been to the etenal city before we were pretty much novices about what location would be best to stay in, but we struck gold with the hotel Cinquantatre. It's location is perfect! It's iterally seconds away from the metro (at the end of the road), a sight seeing bus, lovely cafes and restaurants and the beautiful Piazza Barberini. The trevi fountain is only about a 5-10 minute walk down the main road. We invested in a metro 7 day ticket and it was worth the little we paid for it as it took us all around the main sites of Rome within minutes.
The Hotel itself was really lovely. It was clean, comfortable, nicely furnished and basically just very pleasant to stay in. We were on the front face of the building and we had a mini balcony looking out onto the street. There was air conditioning in the room and it came with a television, a safe and a fridge with drinks and food inside. The bathroom was nice and the shower was good and strong!
The staff were polite and helpful especially one of the ladies who served the breakfasts. Speaking of breakfasts they were tasty. We got a sugared croissant, a couple of bread rolls each, soft cheese, jams, honey, special k type cereal, and a choice of teas, cappacinos, cafe latte and orange juice. It was enough to keep us going all day. The breakfast terrace was gorgeous to sit out on in a morning and it really started your day off on a nice note to eat your breatfast 'al fresco' and take in the lovely view.
My holiday to Rome was one of the best holidays I've ever had. The city itself is just breathtaking and it was only made more wonderful with having a nice place to stay in in a perfect location. I will definately use the Hotel Cinquantatre again next time I visit Rome...which please god will be soon!!!

This Hotel is small but clean. It is on a street off Piazza Barberini which is one of the main squares in Rome. Most things are within walking distance and if you do not want to walk, the Metro is 2 mintues from the Hotel on the Piazza. There is no Hotel lobby just a reception desk and the lift is very tiny but in a city like Rome where there is so much to see, all we did was showered and slept there so it was perfect. The room was small but as previously said both room and bathroom were clean. The shower door came off the hinges a couple of times so just bear this in mind if you get Room 203! Nice view of the street and our little balcony even had a small christmas tree on it. Very cute!!
Breakfast was a continental - yogurt, one choice of cereal, croissants & cheese/jam. Basic but ok for the price. We got a great deal on this hotel through Alpharooms.com
The only little gripe I would have with this hotel is the disinterested staff. Sometimes they did not even look at you as they handed you the key and I dont think that a simple hello greeting is too much to ask but it was not forthcoming unless we initiated it. Maybe they were just not happy to be working over the New Year so I will give them the benefit of the doubt!!!
Next time in Rome we will probably stay at this Hotel again based on its location.
