Just returned from a trip to Rome and a 2 night stay at the Champagne Palce. I was dreading going to the hotel after reading reviews on the web-site, but to be honest when we got there we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is not a 4 star by british standards, but the room and bed was clean, the pillow cases and towels changed every day. The down side was - the room was quite small, but lets face it in Rome you should not be spending hours in your hotel, and the shower was just ok but tiny. Breakfast was served on the 7th floor (good views) on what was like tressel tables - no cloths on the table and you got a typical Italian breakfast.

The plus side it was near the station - train and bus, and you could always get a bus back to the bus station in the evening. I was nervous about staying near a train station but we felt it was an advantage and we never felt threatened - even late at night.

I would disagree with the bad reviews. The hotel is probably not what you'd expect of 4 star accommodation but it is most acceptable.
It's very handy for Termini Station.
The staff we encountered were very pleasant.
Although the room could be described as faded elegance it was clean and spacious. The shower was however tiny. Very difficult to turn around or indeed lift your arms to wash your hair.
Breakfast was acceptable by continental standards.

Great little place. Described as 4 star - not by UK standards but perfect for a long weekend in Rome. Cleaned daily with nice marble bathroom and great powershower. Also perfectly situated about a 10 minute walk from the Colleseum & 15 minute walk from the Trevi Fountain. Termini station (main train station in Rome) is literally a one minute walk away too. Breakfast a bit basic but there are so many restaurants and cafes around that it doesn't matter. Prices to book on their website are pretty steep but online travel sites like lastminute.com do the package deal at an excellent rate. Would highly recommend for first time visitors to Rome.

Booked through last minute.com as top secret 4 start hotel, 160pound for buy 2 get 1 night free. This rate include a buffet breakfast. You don't expect much for the breakfast, all same in the 3 days stay. 2 different kind of hams, chesse, cereals, non stop coffee, juice, bread.

This hotel is within walking distance from Rome Terminal Station. If you get out from the Terminal, on the right side street, 2 streets down, the hotel is there. Just 5 minutes walk I think. The location is excellent. Right below, there is a supermarket, and you can get water, snacks, beer, wine etc.

Room itself is okay. We stayed at 509 with a large window overseeing the hotel opposite. Bathroom was a little run down. The shower curtain was unable to close tightly because the rubber along the curtain poped up, nevermind, turn around and make sure water won't spilt out to the floor. Tiolet roll was rusty and the maid was putting the tiolet paper on the spare roll.

No wifi, internet connection in room. Only a small 14 inch TV and a fridge. A small writting table.

The most funny thing in the only lift of this hotel, where it can only accomodate 4 people at a time. I just in doubt, does it include luggage? I dare to try. The lift is on the lobby floor, not on the street level. Be preapred to lift for a floor on stairs.

Oooohhh no... you've been unlucky enough to book this hotel. well, on the bright side it's close to the railway station and it's only 15 minutes walk from the colosseum and forum etc. it's also relatively clean. that's it. there's no more good points.

the bad things:
don't get a room on the 6th floor. good parts: balcony. bad parts: loud street noises and 6.30am wake up via the chairs scrapping on tilled floors from the breakfast room above. also, worryingly, some of the doors to the rooms look like they've been kicked in.

don't get a room there in general. why? the walls are paper thin. at one point, i could actually hear someone in the next room breathing. not snoring, just breathing.

the breakfast: terrible. coffee that tastes like petrol. juice so sweet you risk developing diabetes after 2 sips. bowls, SO SMALL, we initially confused them with small glasses.

and the worst thing? the female staff in the breakfast room. they would stand around and giggle at the guests. really unprofessional.

did i mention the girl in the reception? sitting there in her white shell-suit and gold jewelry like something out of the sopranos. probably the boss' daughter. i was actually frightened of her.

one thing to remember when booking hotels in rome (and possibly the rest of italy) the star system goes 1,2,3,4,5 and then 5-premium. so a 4-star place in a city is actually a 3-star level hotel.

me and my girlfriend stayed at this terrible hotel for 3 nights. we booked it through lastminute.com as a secret hotel. we got 3 nights for the price of 2. it was around £50 a night, but, apparently, should have been £75.
the description sold it as 'Fantastic Hotel just a couple of minutes from the Colloseum'.
