We had a room on the first floor near the lobby. It was like sleeping in a dorm room on a cot.
1. It was very noisy due to the location.
2. The bathroom smelled like a sewer.
3. I have never seen towel like this before. They were a little heavier than a sheet.
4. Refrigerator was broken.
5. We had a 12'' T.V in the room. You had to pay for the T.V.
I hear they would reimbursed you. We opted not to watch T.V.
6. Breakfast was coffee, juice and a pastries.
Gate 1 Travel should remove this Hotel from it choices.
Thanks for letting me vent, KLT Buffalo N.Y.

Room 612, Hotel Center II, Rome, Via Giovanni Giolitti 443
1. Heat could not be regulated. Always at full blast. Had to open windows.
2. No light in bathroom. Had to buy an extension chord to move a lamp into the bathroom.
3. Non operable TV without 20-euro deposit for remote. 80% of key boxes at registration contained remotes indicating most people were not interested in coming up with a 20-euro deposit for a 5-euro remote. Risk factor of loosing deposit was too high.
4. Refrigerator didn't work. Unable to find an on/off switch.
5. Light above bed two didn't work.
6. Hair dryer in bathroom didn't work.
7. Electric socket in bathroom had no power.
And now for the positives:
1. The windows worked.
2. The bed and sheets were OK.
3. The door closed and locked OK.
SUMMARY:
Out of ten issues, Hotel Center II scored 30%. Would you stay here with such a record? The answer is yes, if the price per night was 10-euros. But alas, the price per night was much higher. We know what you're thinking. "But why didn't you go to the reception and complain?" We went down to get the TV remote and when we learned about the deposit policy, big negative signs came up. So at that point one just limits the downside by making do, beating it out of there and never returning again. But does Gate 1 Travel, the booking agency, know the facts? Yes, we'll write the letter. Have a nice day as we know you'll not have a nice night at Rome's Hotel Center II. Oh, we know what you're thinking! "Other people were not complaining." Well, yes they were, to us, but will they make a summary at TripAdvisor? Stay tuned.......

  • Liked — The door was solid with a good lock. The windows worked well. Water was hot.
  • Disliked — Non regulatable heat, unlit bathroom, nonworking refrigerator, nonworking TV

We were booked into this hotel through Gate1Travel and were appalled that this was considered a 3 star hotel. The room was just big enough to fit a double bed. And I really do mean, just! When my husband sat on the edge of the bed, his toes touched the door to the bathroom. The bed was a very thin mattress on a wire frame. It resembled the construction that is found in a fold-away bed in a sofa.

In addition to being very cramped, the room was also very noisy. The walls were thin enough that we could hear the person on one side of our room snoring and the people in the other side talking. Also the electric trams started running quite early and continued until very late. The bath towels resembled kitchen tea towels both in terms of their size and the type of material. The continental breakfast left a lot to be desired as well. The coffee was very weak and the orange juice was watery.

We typically visit Europe 2 or 3 times a year and have stayed in a variety of hotels. The location of this one was questionable and quite a hike from the main entrance of the Termini station. I would have been most uncomfortable walking in the area after dark on my own. The fact this hotel had a hair dryer in the bathroom was probably considered justification for awarding it 3 stars, but otherwise this was was a tourist class, 1-star, establishment in a rather desolate area of town.

  • Liked — the croissants for breakfast
  • Disliked — the uncomfortable bed and noisy room

We just visited Rome, and while this hotel had a bit larger room than I expected, that and it's price is about all it had going for it. The desk person went out of his way to be miserable to everyone, being rude, grunting back answers. Day or night he always seemed to be there, and when the hotel locks up at night, you can hear him snoring behind the desk, where he sleeps - there is a partition that hides his bed. On our last day there a young lady was at the desk. She appeared friendly. The quality of food is poor. A crescent, prepackaged toast - thicker than melba toast, orange juice and instant coffee from a machine. There are tv's in the room but you can't use them unless you pay an extra 25 euros to get the piece of equipment that will allow you to access the tv, channels, etc. There is no internet service here. Asking for help from the desk person, can be a challenge, but don't let him intimidate you and he tries to. He turned the lights off a group of people who were talking in the gathering place, it was early evening, they were quietly playing cards. They do have maps at the hotel - ask for one because the maps are very good, much clearer than Frommers, etc, but don't ask the desk person for such things as dining references, etc (unless it is the young lady) as you will be disappointed and frustrated. Ask some of the friendly travellers there who have been there a couple of days. They can be of great assistance. There are hair dryers in the toilets, shampoo and soap. They use odd towels also, they are more like large dish clothes than towel. They are very thin.

Our room had a stale smell and was in need of painting. It looked tired, drab and a bit run down. Luckily, the windows can be opened and this helps freshen things up. The beds are extremely small, they look and feel more like cots. This hotel has the potential to look nice with the marble and construction, but is run down and there is no immagination used to decorate. A good cleaning, some paint, some interesting pictures, brighter wall and bed coverings would help improve the look, along with a better breakfast, and most important some friendly, helpful hotel staff who will offer assistance. This hotel is located far from restaurants, bars, shops and is in a poor part of town. You can't just run out to get a bite to eat or shop or to see the sights; It's a long walk into town, although some buses and the metro are not too far away. This is not an area you want to walk at night. The only real positive is, the hotel was cheap and we didn't spend much time there. I'd rather have stayed in a hotel with a smaller room that had some ambiance, with people who cared at the desk; more a reflection of the hospitality and character of Rome.

Check to see if there are equal priced hotels that are situated closer to town and have better write ups. If you're not staying here long, the best thing this hotel has going for it is price.

  • Liked — Not much. Although price was ok, if researching more would find better quality at good price
  • Disliked — Attitude of desk person and the location of this hotel

I booked this hotel, for one week in June 2008, through my travel agent . On the hotel webpage everything looks very nice but in reality this is a 2 stars hotel, maybe 2 ½ stars.
The people from the reception were ok, friendly and helpful.

I’ve been staying in one of the rooms 4xx, and it looks like everyone was carrying the luggage on the walls and not on the floor, the toilet and window was broken (probably someone was trying to use the window as the main entrance).

For turning on / off the air conditioner in your room you have to ask the people from the reception to do it , and for the TV remote you have to leave at the reception a guaranty of 20 EUR.

Another problem with this hotel is the outside noise. You can hear all the cars, trams and people who are passing in front of the hotel.

If you are a diabetic is better to avoid the breakfast: a lot of croissants with chocolate and vanilla, some butter and marmalade, orange/pineapple drink and coffee.

As location, the hotel is situated at 15-20 minutes walking from Termini Station and 10 minutes from Manzoni subway station. Also, you may take a bus or a tram from Piazza di Porta Magiore (2 minutes walking). My advice is to take the bus 571 from Piazza di Porta Magiore and you’ll reach very easily and in a short time Coloseo, Fori Imperiali, Piazza Venetia, etc.

I would not stay here again.

In Rome, take care with the taxi drivers and the restaurants waiters
