We stayed at the Exedra for 2 nights in May 2009. The location is great – the hotel forms almost all of one side of a giant square with a fountain in the middle. The McDonalds next door dampens the grandeur slightly, but overall it’s pretty special.
The rooms vary in size; on the fourth floor there are large rooms with small balconies overlooking the Piazza, but other rooms are smaller and overlook other back walls. All the facilities you would expect of a 5* hotel – although only 1 English language TV station which, even in Italy, is unusual.
The mayor highlight:
Roof top infinity pool overlooking the city, surrounded by a bar and “chill-out” areas with squishy oversized white sofas and candlelight at night. Friendly bar staff make great drinks.
The biggest disappointment:
Breakfast was appalling. Two kinds of fruit (sliced rock-hard pineapple or oranges), stale pastries (dried out croissants), three soggy cereals and juice form a carton. Oh and a salad bar with limp lettuce and tomatoes. The coffee was percolated, slow and bitter and so was the service.
Dreadful! Would expect a better breakfast at a 2* hotel.
