I have just come back from staying at the Ottocento and would recommend this hotel to anyone. My room was typically small, as are most European rooms, however the bathroom was large (almost disproportionately to the room, but hey, I wasn't complaining) Everything was very clean and well maintained and the staff were friendly and helpful, and gave me heaps of information on arrival regarding sights, transport and restaurants in the area. I could walk to all the main sites of Rome, the Vatican being the the furthest at about 30 mins. The restaurant that served breakfast downstairs made great coffee and I found the continental breakfast buffet to be good. Of course, you ARE in Rome, so don't limit yourself to one place to eat..
My sister came to stay with me for two nights and the hotel did not charge me extra for this. I could have saved money staying elsewhere in Rome, but I'm glad I didn't and will be back.

Albergo Ottocento was mediocre at best.

staying close to the top of the spanish steps was a fantastic location, thats where it ends.

the rooms are tight, and despite a few dress ups here and there, its average. dont take anything electrical, plugging in involved dragging out the desk and choosing the fridge or my hair straightener. Bathrooms were good, providing you arent on the largese side.

breakfast was just funny. typical european continental with package juice, package eggs and some stale bread. youre better off sacrificing the money and going to a cafe near by.

there is a lovely roof top terrace if you were there in spring. oh, and the lemon sweeties in the bowl on the counter are to die for.

overall, soend a few more of your hard earned euro and stay somewhere with a sense of place.

BTW,if in a taxi from termini, watch out, theyll rip you off.

yours in travel,
spoons

The hotel is well located, the amenities were good, the staff was ok, the restaurant and breakfast good. Our room was tiny but nice and stylish, the bathroom with jacuzzi was great. We arrived on Fri the 21st of November. On Monday the 24th my husband needed to send an email and when he looked for his laptop it wasn't in its case. We looked averywhere, and being sure the computer had been there, asked the receptionist if she thought it was possible that someone could have taken it. She told me on the phone, with not even surprise tone in her voice: "It's unlikely but not impossible. I cannot assure you this could not have happened." I asked her very politely to find out with the cleaning personnel and the gentleman who take the suitcases to the rooms and who have the key of all of them. I have never received an answer. We decided no to ruin the rest of our first time in Rome, and given that the laptop was insured we thought that the best way to comply was sending this review and warning all future guests of Albergo Ottocento that they can be robbed there and not find a simple apollogy and least of all an investigation.

Had this recommended by a friend. Stayed for only 3 nights for a short weekend break. Good location, quiet and only a 5 minute walk to top of Spanish Steps. 40 minute walk to colosium. Hotel was clean, bedding and towels changed every day. Breakfast very simple but adequate to fuel up for the day. Only had one issue - shower pipe leaked, and tray filled up, i.e. didn't drain quickly enough. Reception staff were very good. Hotel arranged taxi transfers, cost 55 euros each way, so not cheap but didn't want the hassal of arranging independantly. I pre-arranged a bottle of champagne with reception which was delivered promtly to our room 5 minutes after arrival.
All in all a good hotel, good location, friendly staff.

We stayed 4 nights in double deluxe room in the end of August. We booked special offer through hotel`s own website and paid 525 € for the entire stay. We asked an early check-in advance, but they were not able to confirm it then, but they promised we could leave the luggage there. When we arrived after 10 am, our room was already ready, which was nice.

The room located in 4th floor, and was very comfortable with large bed, 2 "door windows" (look pictures) and a jacuzzi bath. Don`t push the jacuzzi button before there is water, because it will go broken. I misused it and were not able to use it at first night. Luckily they repaired it the next day, and it worked after that.

There is a normal key for the door and a card that has to be put on the wall to get the lights. Key has to be left at the reception when you leave out.

Breakfast was ok. There were bread rolls, ham, cheese, juices (which were not very good), cake (which was yammy), croissants, cerials and that kind of stuff. Waiter asks what you want to drik, and you can ask for example cappucino, cafe latte etc.

There is a restaurant on roof garden. You have to buy something to be able to sit there. We ate there once, and did not want to go back. It was by far the most disappointing visit of our whole stay. The pasta and wine were good, but the main course was very bad. We ordered some grilled lamb both, and then the waiter came back and asked if we want to change the order to be something else that he recommended. I asked if it was the same price as for the lamb, but did not got a clear answer. We though it would cost the same, and said ok. The meat was very dry and "rugged", both lamb and those other meat the order included. Only chicken was good. The surprise came when we got the bill. The other main course costed 25 % more than the original meal we ordered. Not only that, but they charged us of the bread they brough to our table even though they never said it costs something. It was dry and hard bread, and we both ate only one piece, but they charged 5 € of each. We had prepared to pay less than 100 € but the sum was 103 € (two person`s dinner), and did not even include service. We felt a bit cheated. Before we got our pasta, I might have saw a mouse. Something was running on the banister, but I did not have time to see what exactly it was. Overall I can`t recommend that restautant to anyone.

I liked the hotels itself, our room and the location. Barberini metro station is just around the corner, and we used it a lot even though the distances in Rome are much shorter than we imagined based on maps. The air condition was very efficient, and it was nice to relax in the room after walking hours in hot Rome.
