Had this recommended by a friend. Stayed for only 3 nights for a short weekend break. Good location, quiet and only a 5 minute walk to top of Spanish Steps. 40 minute walk to colosium. Hotel was clean, bedding and towels changed every day. Breakfast very simple but adequate to fuel up for the day. Only had one issue - shower pipe leaked, and tray filled up, i.e. didn't drain quickly enough. Reception staff were very good. Hotel arranged taxi transfers, cost 55 euros each way, so not cheap but didn't want the hassal of arranging independantly. I pre-arranged a bottle of champagne with reception which was delivered promtly to our room 5 minutes after arrival.
All in all a good hotel, good location, friendly staff.

We stayed 4 nights in double deluxe room in the end of August. We booked special offer through hotel`s own website and paid 525 € for the entire stay. We asked an early check-in advance, but they were not able to confirm it then, but they promised we could leave the luggage there. When we arrived after 10 am, our room was already ready, which was nice.

The room located in 4th floor, and was very comfortable with large bed, 2 "door windows" (look pictures) and a jacuzzi bath. Don`t push the jacuzzi button before there is water, because it will go broken. I misused it and were not able to use it at first night. Luckily they repaired it the next day, and it worked after that.

There is a normal key for the door and a card that has to be put on the wall to get the lights. Key has to be left at the reception when you leave out.

Breakfast was ok. There were bread rolls, ham, cheese, juices (which were not very good), cake (which was yammy), croissants, cerials and that kind of stuff. Waiter asks what you want to drik, and you can ask for example cappucino, cafe latte etc.

There is a restaurant on roof garden. You have to buy something to be able to sit there. We ate there once, and did not want to go back. It was by far the most disappointing visit of our whole stay. The pasta and wine were good, but the main course was very bad. We ordered some grilled lamb both, and then the waiter came back and asked if we want to change the order to be something else that he recommended. I asked if it was the same price as for the lamb, but did not got a clear answer. We though it would cost the same, and said ok. The meat was very dry and "rugged", both lamb and those other meat the order included. Only chicken was good. The surprise came when we got the bill. The other main course costed 25 % more than the original meal we ordered. Not only that, but they charged us of the bread they brough to our table even though they never said it costs something. It was dry and hard bread, and we both ate only one piece, but they charged 5 € of each. We had prepared to pay less than 100 € but the sum was 103 € (two person`s dinner), and did not even include service. We felt a bit cheated. Before we got our pasta, I might have saw a mouse. Something was running on the banister, but I did not have time to see what exactly it was. Overall I can`t recommend that restautant to anyone.

I liked the hotels itself, our room and the location. Barberini metro station is just around the corner, and we used it a lot even though the distances in Rome are much shorter than we imagined based on maps. The air condition was very efficient, and it was nice to relax in the room after walking hours in hot Rome.

We stayed at this lovely hotel for 4 nights. The hotel is small as are the rooms but perfectly adequate. It is a very clean, smart hotel and the staff are exceptional. They are professional, efficient and very very pleasant. The only criticism that we had was that they have a roof terrace where they served evening meals, but unless you were eating you could not use it. This was a shame as during the day it was not used at all but guests were not allowed to sit up there to relax for half an hour or so after a long tiring day. This was our only criticism that this facility could not be used. It was a shame. Otherwise a perfect hotel.

  • Disliked — Not able to use roof terrace.

My wife and 8-year old daughter stayed for 3 nights here in late June, 2008. The hotel is in a great location. It's easy to walk or metro from the train station. It is also close to all the major sites, except maybe the Vatican. We walked to everything, even Borghese. It is small enough. The front staff was nice and professional. The rooms were typically small, but well decorated and furnished. The bathrooms were nice. Air conditioning worked okay. More often, I see european hotels with separate keys for the electricity. You have to plug the key into a slot to turn on the room's power. They have that feature here. The breakfast was average.

There is a rooftop restaurant that looked nice. We didn't eat there, but did have a nice gellato.

There are lots of good restaurants and shops nearby. Unfortunately, there is one restaurant just off the Piazza Barberini that has a "tout" trying to lure every obvious tourist into the restaurant. Avoid this and all places like it.

Ottocento is a boutique hotel in the centre of Rome, right beside the Barberini metro and about 10 minutes from the Piazza Spagna (Spanish Steps). A great location and one that is hard to beat at this price. It has been recently renovated and the rooms, though small, are quite nice. The bathroom was of high quality, with a great shower and jacuzzi bath. We had room 104, which had a small patio on the interior courtyard. No sun and overlooked, but a nice touch and place to sit with a coffee. The staff were quite friendly and helpful, managing to iron some shirts late on Saturday night despite the laundry service being closed. They also let us take breakfast up to our room (to enjoy the patio) and to use their computer to print off the Internet. The restaurant upstairs on the terrace was expensive for what it was (80 euros for two - 1 bottle of wine, two small pasta dishes, two desserts) but had good views across town. At 230 euros a night, the place was hardly cheap, but then, Rome really isn't where one goes for a good deal.
