Maybe by Rome standards hotel offers superb accomodations, but in reality it is Motel 6 at 165 euros per night.
The best feature is, of course, location, as well as top notch security. Other than that everything is at the minimally acceptable level.
The breakfast is a joke - lots of bread and not much else, with coffee delivered lukewarm. The whole breakfast-in-the-room idea is silly, because there is not enough space to even sit comfortably.
Our room (#38) was just big enough for 2 people, but not if you come with your luggage, as most people do.
The shower was tiny. If you are more than 200 lb., stay away from this room - you won't fit in the shower.
Among the staff Julie was kind and helpful, but the owner herself was rude and aggressive. Her main point in our 5 minute conversation was that she didn't really need us as customers, because she had plenty of permanent ones, and, if we don't like the shower, we "can go to a public bath."
I imagine a Motel 6 employee would be fired for such a comment.

Having read the reviews - well it is Rome and you get what you pay for. Nice place and good location - remember that it is at the TOP of the Spanish steps - so if you prefer not to make the walk at the end of the day - pay more and stay at another hotel at the BOTTOM of the steps.
The staff were great and the bathroom was nice. The room was fine for what we paid.

Not recommended if you are looking for a "romantic" getaway, but for my sister and I - it was fine for all the tourist things we did.

Hotel Suisse has several things going for it: location, cleanliness, and price. The location was ideal--we walked everywhere except to the Vatican.

We had a HUGE room BUT it was facing the street so it got a little noisy sometimes but once we closed our windows, the noise did not bother us.

The hotel was SUPER clean especially the bathrooms which I am very particular. The bathroom was modern but the hotel is in an older building which we found very charming.

A few things though that may bother some travelers but were ok with us were: you had to tell someone if you were going to be out after 2:00 am so you can be buzzed in. As we were traveling with a toddler it was lights out for us by 9:00. And we felt safe that guests had to be buzzed in.

The breakfast had to be taken to your room--I actually liked this because my boys (husband and son) slept in so I can call for breakfast, and its in our room by the time they wake up. We don't have to worry about missing breakfast.

You had to climb a few steps before reaching a small elevator. So if you have luggage--be prepared.

For the price and location, you cannot beat the Hotel Suisse. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Hotel Suisse was extremely central, just a 5 minute walk from the Spanish steps. It is a very secure hotel as you have to be buzzed in twice when you enter and its on the third floor of its building. The staff are polite and friendly. Our room was very small but quiet and extremely clean. The shower was the smallest i have ever seen!! My husband and i were happy enough with the hotel as we weren't expecting much for the price. Its very basic. The only place we felt comfortable was in our room as we didn't think that they had a very welcoming lobby or lounge to relax in. I don't think we would stay there again as it was so basic, if we return to Rome we would rather pay abit more as we missed our comforts!! Great location for tourist attractions and shopping though!
