Not honest about internet connection & air conditioning

I chose this hotel for three reasons (1) location, (2) air conditioning, and (3) having an internet connection. The hotel's web site notes that every room has air conditioning and an internet connection. The hotel has NO internet connections in ANY room. The receptionist noted that each room has a phone jack, from which you can "connect" to the internet. I do not believe most people consider a phone line as an "internet connection". If you do, then disregard my comment. If you don't, then disregard this hotel! Secondly, I never experienced any air conditioning, despite several requests. Finally, about my third inquiry, the reception noted that the air conditioning was controlled centrally and only operated for a few hours. . . I believe he said 3-5 pm, 11:30 pm to 1:30 am, and 6 to 8 am, or something like that. However, even during those hours, there was no cold air coming out of my vents. Fortunately it was not extremely hot outside, but it was uncomfortable. Finally, the reception was simply not polite. Before any problems arose, there was never as much as a smile. That's no big deal, but the people were down-right rude once I complained about the room being very hot and there being no internet connection. Location was decent, and there were no major cleanliness problems, although there was a musty smell (especially in the hallways) and the hotel has an old feel to it. Overall, I feel that the hotel is misleading people into staying at the hotel by not being honest about having internet connections and (at least adequate) air conditioning.

The Hotel Marconi is placed wonderfully round the corner from the train station and therefore also within just a few minutes walk to Rome's tube system.
The room was ok, a little small but generally pleasant enough, although it could have been a little cleaner. The staff were not polite, and didn't really seem to have much time for guests. This included reception to whom we always came across an inconvenience and the women who would make as much noise as possible in the breakfast room disturbing anybody who may be eating there.
The breakfast was a typical continental selection with meats, cheeses, yoghurts and such, but none of this was particularly fresh, the bread being decidedly stale and tough.
Despite my comments, I would recommend this hotel for people looking for a simple bed and breakfast in Rome because of its good value and location.

We stayed for 5 nights in the Marconi in August 2008 and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. If you have money to spare you would probably prefer to stay somewhere more central as the termini area is a bit "rough", although not half as bad as some people have described and I never felt unsafe.
We booked with Hotel Connect and got 5 nights for £240.00 (bed and breakfast at Marconi) - absolute bargain.

The hotel is about a 2 minute walk from the termini and 20 minute walk from the Colossuem. We hardly ever used the metro as is was so nice to walk everywhere.

The Marconi was very clean, and the staff very helpful when we asked any questions. The room was not too small either and the bathrroms looked quite new. It has tea/coffee making facilities, a safe, a hairdryer, TV, radio and a mini fridge which is a great touch - we bought drinks from local stores and stored them to keep cool. the drinks they supply in the mini fridge were about 2 Euro each - which actually is not bad considering prices in Rome generally! The air-con worked and there was plenty of wardrobe/drawer space for clothes etc. Beds perfectly comfy and we never had any problems with noise from other guests or outside.

Also they supply great maps of Rome for free in reception- better than any of the ones the guide books we bought had.

Breakfasts were good - bread, croissants, youghurt, cereal, fruit, tea, coffee, juice, ham, cheese - what more could you want.?

I would absolutely reccomend Marconi Hotel and would definitely stay there again.

  • Liked — It was excellent value for money and close to termini
  • Disliked — Nothing it was perfect for our needs

Stayed on a one night break en route to elsewhere. Hotel was clean, beds comfortable, aircon good and even though we were on the first floor excellent double glazing blocked out any traffic noise.

Having been to Rome a couple of times before I was a bit dubious about staying so close to the station but there was no need as the area felt perfectly safe.

Room itself was dark (in Pais that would be "charming") but adequate and was pleasantly surprised by minibar, safe in room and bath.

If I wanted somewhere to stay in Rome for a reasonable price to use as a base and a decent night's sleep then I would definitely choose to stay here again.

  • Liked — Proximity to station

Me and my husband went a small get-away break to Rome and stayed at the Marconi Hotel in Rome city centre.

The rooms are small there - but thats standard in the city centre.
The room was clean and basic. We spent all day out sight-seeing. It was lovely.
The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly.
We think we got great value for our money spent here and when we return to rome in the future we would msot definatly be staying Marconi hotel.

The bathroom was small but very clean. The bedrooms were cleaned daily, fresh sheets and towels.
We had breakfast there which was basic continental but again it was fine as there were so many places where you could grab a snack. The hotel was a great base and recommend it to anyone who is planning a trip in Rome for sight seeing.
