We stayed for two nights here and just loved it. We had searched this site for many many hours and found what we were looking for at tripadvisor. Happily, our choice of hotel was correct.
We booked directly with the hotel through its website and had several specific requests about the room, all of which were honoured by the hotel.
Like the person who posted two reviews earlier than mine we also were on the piazza side of the hotel but we did not hear a thing at night. However, we did stay in June and from 1st June the hotels in Italy are allowed to turn their air conditioning on so we did sleep with the windows closed. In fact we were amazed that there was no noise!
The room was impeccablly furnished and very very large (even for non-European standards) with close to 20-foot ceilings. We had a king bed, two bedside tables, a hall stand, entertainment unit, a chaise lounge, a sofa and ottoman, table and two chairs as well as a desk in our room. So this gives you an idea of the size. The decor was beautiful and the room very clean with an excellent bathroom. To be fair, we did book a deluxe room rather than a standard room, but nevertheless we were more than satisfied with the room - in fact pleasantly surprised given that we had stayed in many excellent hotels in Italy by then and so were well acclimatised to the standard.
The staff at the front desk was polite and functional, but remember that service in Italy is not what it is in many other parts of the world so it is hard to compare. However, our experience with the staff was that they were largely either pleasant or at least inoffensive, and we were well conditioned by then as we had already spent two weeks in Italy. I don't have anything negative to say about the staff.
Breakfast was included in our room rate and was well presented with a very good range of foods including hot foods for those who like that. More importantly, the coffee and tea were piping hot (not common in Italy, esp with the coffee as the Italians drink their espresso a little cooler than non-Italians like it). We did not eat at the hotel, but did peruse the menu and the drinks and food is quite pricey so if you are on a budget after splurging on the accommodation there are dozens of restaurants within a three minute walk.
The location could not be beat - in the piazza della Minerve just 50 metres from the Pantheon. We had a gorgeous view of the Pantheon from our window. Some of the best gelati stores are a stone's throw away from the hotel and the hotel is well placed to walk all over the centro storico and Trastevere.
Overall, for us an excellent choice, if not expensive. We loved it and didn't want to leave. There are hundreds of excellent hotels in Rome to choose from and you probably won't be disappointed as long as you have somewhere close by and clean to rest your weary head on after a long day enjoying the city. Grand Hotel de la Minerve is certainly at least those things. We would love to stay here again.
