This was our second stay at the Minerva. Our flght arrived early and we were to the hotel by 10 AM. We were pleasantly surprised to find that our rooms were ready. Our room was a junior suite and had a lovely terazza. The rooms were very clean and well maintained. The hotel itself was spotless. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Be sure to stop into the bar when there, either on the rooftop or in the lobby. The bartenders are a hoot and the ambiance is excellent. We have not eaten in the restaurant so we can't speak to their food. However, the snacks put out by the bartenders was unbelievable. Nuts, canapes, etc. Very enjoyable.

We like to try different hotels whenever we're in Roma, but since finding the Minerva, we will look no further. It's central location makes easy walking distance to many of the sites. I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants an enjoyable stay. It's a bit pricey but worth the extra $$.

This hotel is located in what is perhaps one of the best locaitons in Rome. I have been to Rome about 8 times, and each time I stay in a different hotel for the new experience. Grand Hotel De La Minerva was the most expensive hotel I stayed in and I can tell you that my colleagues agree with me whan I say its just not worth the money !

The lobby is beautiful, the rooftop restaurant is very nice, rooms are fine (although small like much of Rome's hotels), but the place is just way to stuffy, expensive and pretentious and the prices for a coffee or the most basic items are rediculous.

What was really disapponting was the attitude of much of the staff. It was almost like "hey, be happy we let you stay here... this is an expensive hotel !". Well at nearly 500 dollars a night... I think they need to be happy people stay there.. not the guests.

All said, it was far from horrible.. and please see my other reviews just so you know I am not a critical traveler. This place just under-delivered and over-charged for everytyhing !

For my money, there are better places to stay in Rome.. unless of course you get a really good rate here.

Dont expect a 5 Star Hotel when you get there, except for the price and location. You will pay 5 Star prices and if all you need is to be in the middle of Rome so you can walk everywhere, then you are ok. Otherwise, I would best describe it as a 3 Star Hotel in US Standards

Grand Hotel de la Minerve was recommended to me by a close personal acquantance who had frequently used the hotel many years ago. After he had raved about it so much, we decided to proceed and book 3 nights there. Unfortunately from check-in to check-out the service was horrendous! After pulling up to the hotel, there was no bellman to handle our luggage. Check-in was all but welcoming. After reaching the room, we were on the second floor in a corner room with a window which barely let in any sunlight. The room was standard. It felt more like a business hotel than anything, but generally clean. We asked the concierge for recommendations of restaurants in the area and he seemed almost baffled and ill prepared to respond to our questions. Another incident with the night concierge where we asked for help, he had advised he would get back to us with a reply. After a couple of hours, we went downstairs and asked for an update and he said there was no luck. There seemed to be no real desire to service the guest. Check out service was equally horrendous. My husband brought the bags downstairs to the lobby, pulled the car up to the hotel and put the luggage inside with no assistance from anyone in the hotel. 5 star luxury I DONT THINK SO!!!!!!!

Terrible service--- YOU CAN DO BETTER IN ROME!

Management response from Manager-Hotel-Invest, Mr. Gabriele Galieni - General Manager
(Management representative)
Jun 18, 2009
Dear Guest,

I deeply regret to hear of all the inconveniences that spoiled the guest's stay in Rome. Rest assured that his comments will be thoroughly examined and shared with the Department Heads involved.

We are proud of our hotel and happy to consider ourselves at the full disposal of our guests, as most of them acknowledge and appreciate. Therefore, I remain at disposal of the New Jersey guest, too, should he wish to contact me.

Gabriele Galieni

An expedia booked room resulted in a room on the sixth floor for our Saturday arrival. This floor is no penthouse because with the roof terrace above we were kept awake until 130am by the dragging of tables and the wait staff running through the corridor with the dirty plates and washing in the small hours. A Fawlty Towers moment if there ever was one. We complained at the time, twice, and were promised it would stop. It didn't.

We were moved to another room the next day without much apology or explanation, they clearly knew this is major problem, frankly though this floor should not be in use, or they need to think very carefully about the roof.

Oh and the hotel arranged a taxi to the airport who refused to honour the mandated 40 eur trip fee, something we confirmed with the concierge.

Hotel location is excellent and is an interesting building but given the lack of consideration they give to paying guests, you'd have to be very specific that you will not accept a room on the sixth floor.
