“loved it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

spent 6 nights here last week. we had a superior room which was totally fine. luckily, we had a corner room- so 2 windows- no real view- street side through one window and a view of the adjacent building's terrace on the other.

great location.

very clean, shower pressure was good, internet worked well. loved breakfast spread- a lot of choices for every palate. very comfy bed. large bathroom.

very helpful concierge and staff.

only downside was that the hotel bar was extremely pricy- so we did not drink at the hotel.

Room Tip: we had room 546- a corner in the superior class ( second cheapest)- had 2 windows and another window...

The first thing to say is that this is not a five star hotel in the western sense of "five star." As everyone has said it has a great location, and a very affable staff. If you look closely at the positive reviews vs. the negative reviews you will notice that nearly all of the positive ones come from those people who stayed in Deluxe rooms and suites, and negative reviews are left by those people who stayed in standard rooms. While on business, I stayed in both a deluxe room and two different standard rooms-- so I can verify that there is a massive drop off in quality from the higher end rooms to the standard room. In my opinion, all of the rooms at this hotel are slightly overpriced-- but the nightly rates for standard rooms are ridiculous for what you get. These small interior rooms without a view are very small (read: U.S. microtel small), outdated, and often in need of repair. Neither of the standard rooms I stayed in cooled off well, or provided water hotter than lukewarm. And as you may read in other reviews, Wi-fi and breakfast are not included and will cost (a lot) extra. Deluxe rooms are nice and most have great views of the square below-- but you will definitely pay for that luxury. If you just want a decent room for a decent price, with the same great location (and free breakfast), try the Albergo Santa Chiara right next door. If you are willing to pay for the suite at the Minerve, then your stay will be everything you expect.

Dear Mr Rob,

Thank you for your sharing your opinion, always of great value to us.
We are prod of our staff and our location is one of the best in town.
We are a are a 5 star hotel according to the Italian sense of five star, which is not much different from the rest of the world’s perception of what a luxury hotel is. Our reviews confirms it.
Having housed most of the guest who have written about their experience with us, we are usually able to identify the rooms they mention and we can honestly state that compliments and complains are equally distributed among all of our room type. The size of our Classic rooms, an average 18sqm , is slightly larger than the average size of same-category rooms of comparable venues in Rome, or in other European cities to be true. As most wide travelled people know, US standards in room size are not to be found anywhere in Italy. By the way, all of them has been renewed last year, just before Easter and are under constant survey in case repairs are necessary.
De Luxe and Junior Suites are under renovation just now!
If you have experienced missing cooling or hot water supply, we feel sorry about it and we do apologize, we are able to fix this kind of shortcomings in no time at all.
Regarding breakfast and wi-fi, they are included in all of our business rates and in some of our special offers, but are excluded in our basic rate.
Our friends at the Santa Chiara, indeed a very cute 3star hotel, will be more than happy to know that you recommended them, as we often do, but if you are looking for luxurios and confortable stay, we are what you are looning for
Looking forward to hosting you again soon at the Minerva we thank you for your kind attention and send best regards.

In the middle of Historic Rome, this very old building is converted to 5 star hotel. You will feel the history and heritage while inside the hotel, especially the rooms. The Hotel is very close to Piazza Navona and the Spanish Steps. Lots of Shopping boutiques as well.

Dear Mr Zeitun,
We are located in the formerly Palazzo Fonseca, built for a Portuguese noble family in 1620, tuned to Hotel in 1810, it was the resting place in Rome for the personalities travelling the Grand Tour in the 19th century. Our location, in the very heart of Rome, makes us one of the best places to start discover this wonderful city.
Looking forward to hosting you again soon at the Minerva we thank you for your kind attention and send best regards.

I booked 14 people into this hotel for my birthday making use of the roof top restaurant, which went very well they even made me a cake with a roman candle. a very nice hotel, with staff that other hotels would kill for. a bar just off the lobby with piano player and attentive bar staff. the rooms were clean and well furnished.

Room Tip: The Classic rooms may be a bit small for some tastes.

My husband and I stayed in the Grand Hotel de la Minerve on our first trip to Rome in April of 2011. After a long flight from the U.S., we arrived a few hours early, but we intended to upgrade rooms so our early arrival actually turned out to be a positive. Imagine our relief when we found that the staff was very courteous, prompt and spoke excellent English (I wasn’t quite ready to roll-out my limited Italian).

Our suite was extraordinarily and unexpectedly large by European standards. Unfortunately, despite the space, the room was filled with old, drab furnishings. For our purposes, the room was satisfactory as we just wanted space and a place to lay our heads because we didn’t intend to spend much time in the room at all (we stuck to that throughout our vacation). One minor thing of note was the inclusion of a refrigerator which came in very handy with a market within walking distance just east(?) of the Pantheon.

As with any vacation, we had to sample room service. The food was good, but everything was ridiculously overpriced. With the exception of the rooftop terrace, which has spectacular views, it’s probably best to save your pocketbook from the stress of eating in the hotel. There are ample options around the Pantheon and beyond.

The location alone is worth the stay. It is unbeatable and overshadows any flaw the hotel might have. It is literally steps from the Pantheon. We were able to walk to the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, the Colosseum, and Borghese Gardens (we walked to Piazza del Popolo several times at night just to relax). Essentially any site in ancient Rome that you are interested in visiting is within walking distance if you’re willing to walk. The two exceptions for us were the train station (for time reasons) and the Vatican. However, if you’re in need of a taxi, the hotel staff is more than willing to accommodate you if you call down and let them know.

Overall our trip to Rome was fantastic. While I don’t think the hotel deserved a glowing review for anything other than its location, it certainly didn’t have a negative impact on our vacation. For this reason, this is undoubtedly one of the hardest reviews I’ll ever write. In terms of quality of rooms and service, the hotel does not live-up to the standards of other hotels in this price range. However, if you are willing to buy yourself a prime spot in the middle of ancient Rome for a week (which, in my estimation, is what you’re paying for) then you’ll find the Grand Hotel de la Minerve more than satisfactory.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for observations, we apologize for not being up to your expectations in terms of room and service. We are planning our yearly winter refurbishment and the room you housed in will be part of it. We have guest satisfaction as our main goal and the quality of the room is an essential part of it. We invite you to come back and feel the difference.
Restaurant prices are in line with comparable venues and the Sunday brunch is really at the reach for everyone’s pocket.

Again, thank you for taking your time to share your impressions

My husband and I spent 5 nights here in October. The location is excellent, with the Pantheon right down the block and a Bernini statue in front!.
The lobby is beautiful and the rooms are a nice size. The bathroom is huge and modern. There is a beautiful roof garden that is a wonderful spot to have a wine with fantastic views of Rome. Be warned;however, the drinks are expensive.
The concierge, Marco was very helpful making reservations and even got us a table at Armando Al Pantheon, notorious for not having availability!
The hotel offers several packages. Ours included breakfast daily, free WIFI , a dinner in the roof top restaurant and a welcome drink of Prosceco. Check when reserving what's available.
The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that housekeeping didn't always get to our room until the late afternoon, making it difficult to come back after a full day wanting to recoup before heading out again. We've never had this problem in a hotel before.
All in all, this is the only place we would stay on our next trip to Rome!!

Dear Guest,
Thank you choosing our Hotel for your Roman holidays.
We are happy to know that you enjoyed or Hideaway package, try the Art&Gourmet next time, it includes also the entrance to the top art exhibitions in town.
We apologize for the inconvenience of late room cleaning, our only excuse is that October is the peak high season and the maids work is really intense.
Thanking you for sharing your experience with us, best regards

We first stayed here about ten years ago and loved it. However on this visit to Rome I made the mistake of booking another hotel! We left after two nights and returned to the wonderful Grand Hotel de la Minerve.

In the end, we only had one night at The Minerva but oh how I wish we had stayed here in the first place. It's still very beautiful, with great service, lovely surroundings and wonderful rooms. I like the new Roof Garden as well You can't beat the location either, literally right across from the Pantheon. As far as I'm concerned this is THE place to stay in Rome!

Room Tip: If you can, book a deluxe or superior room. They really are worth the extra money.
