“Perfect location and accommodation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

Perfect location to experience the authentic Rome and to visit the entire town on foot. Our room and bathroom were very spacious and clean and it was very quiet at night. I highly recommend Baylon Suites to anyone visiting Rome.

Originally booked for two nights and loved it so much that we added two more.

Excellent service, location and cleanliness. Francesco (the hotel owner) was always available and was incredibly accommodating. Upon arrival Francesco pulled out a map of Rome and highlighted a few different sightseeing routes as well as some of his favorite restaurants, bars and gelato shops. I am typically very cautious when a hotel owner give me a list of "All the best places" in town. We all know how that goes, they act like they are the greatest places in town when in reality they are just places that are giving the hotel kickbacks for the customers sent there. Well long story short, Francesco didn't tell us that these were the "Best places" he simply said that these were some of his favorite restaurants and bars. In a moment of weakness and hunger, we went into one of Francesco's suggested restaurants (assuming we would be met by a slew of travelers sent there by local hotel owners) and we found just the opposite. It turned out to be a lovely place, with wonderful drinks and food. By the end of the trip we had dinner at three of the five or six places that Francesco suggested and we loved all of them.

About the hotel. People seem to complain online about the noise mainly. We really had no problem with noise. Neither my girlfriend or myself are necessarily heavy sleepers and our room was right above the restaurant on the street below. There is some noise but neither of us found it significant of warranting a complaint. I guess that everyone has a different disposition to such things. After reading reviews, that's what I was most worried about upon booking the hotel and as it turns out, we had no problems with noise.

Problems. We had one small problem with the bathroom. The bidet barely had any water pressure. I told Francesco about the problem and he had it fixed and back to working order in no more than ten minutes. I would like to be able to be a little more critical of this place but we really just loved the heck out of it and didn't have any problems with it.

Baylon Suites is a great place to stay in Rome if you want to be in a great location with many different shops and restaurants. Trastavere also has a lot less tourists than other areas of the city. Francesco and the rest of the staff were extremely helpful. The first day they gave us a map and highlighted tourists destinations and gave us tips on where to get cheaper tickets and skip lines. They even warned us of rain and gave us an umbrella for the day. The rooms were clean and quite. One downside was the inconsistent wifi which fluctuated between really fast and painfully slow. They give you breakfast vouchers for a cafe around the corner that had good coffee and crossiants.

My husband and I stayed here for five nights last week, as part of an 8 week holiday in Europe. During our holiday we have stayed in a wide variety of accommodations, with varied price ranges. And although this B&B was one of the more expensive places we stayed (150euro per night) it was the worst, and we would not recommend this B&B.

The B&B did have some positives. The location in Trastevere is fantastic. Very close by were several good quality restaurants, and we were not far from the tram stop. We were able to walk to most places in Rome from this B&B - it took about 20min to get to the Vatican, 15 min to Palatine and the Colosseum, 20 min to the Pantheon.

The staff at check-in was very helpful. Francesco gave us a map of Rome and showed us where the main tourist attractions were, as well as some recommendations, such as the Cappuccin Crypt, which we would not have seen otherwise. He also gave us multiple restaurant recommendations, all of which were fantastic. However, other than at check-out (which i emailed him the night before to make sure that he would be available) and one other time when my husband managed to find him to ask for a laundry recommendation, we were unable to find him at any other time when we had queries. To be fair, he had said that we could knock on the door to his personal apartment if he was not in the office, however we did not feel comfortable doing so for minor questions. We did knock on is personal door when we needed to check out though.

Now for the negatives. While the room was clean and had everything that we needed, there was no natural light in the room, which meant that we always had to have the light on and we never knew whether it was day or night. Judging by the photos above though, maybe this was just our room.
The wifi was unreliable, frequently cutting out and being extremely slow, while at other times working quite well.
The main issue we had with the room was the noise. Every time someone in the building (maybe just our floor) used the water, the water tank next to our bedroom made extremely loud "gulping" noises. When we spoke to the lovely lady who cleaned the rooms (as we couldn't find Francesco) she said that this was the building's water sanitation unit, and that nothing could be done about the noise. We were woken up multiple times every night, and we are not light sleepers. This was not helped by the people in the next room, who liked to shower after midnight, as the noise would continue the whole time the water was running. One night this lasted for an hour, and I was so tired that I was in tears by the time the noise stopped.
This is the number 1 reason that I have given this B&B such a bad rating. On the Friday night that we were there, the bar downstairs had a band playing, and it honestly sounded like they were right next door (which they might have been, I'm not sure). We didn't sleep until they finished that night, which thankfully was around midnight (we are people who like to get to bed early though).

This would not be a bad place to stay if the room had natural light and was not next to the water tank.

My husband and I travel a lot and have been to Rome many times and were looking for anything BUT a hotel this time. The Baylon Suites was one of the best places we've ever stayed at, it seriously is a hidden gem! The rooms are full of character and very spacious and the building is in the heart of Trastevere where all of the action is, and also close to all of the sights! We were traveling with another couple and both bathrooms and rooms were clean and were well taken care of, plus there was free wifi and a tv. The breakfast was at a cafe right below the rooms and for the frist time in Italy we were given the option of having eggs, a croissant, a coffee, and an orange juice at no specific time, just whenever we woke up! Francesco helped us with anything we needed and gave up tips about the city. On our last day my friend got sick so Francesco and Rose helped by making tea and advised us which Pharmacy was open on Sundays. They are extremely friendly and caring people and their attention to detail really made the stay worth while! We cannot wait to return back to Rome and stay here again :)
Highly recommend this to everyone as it is the best of the best.

The Baylon Suites is a modest little place on the second floor of an old building, but it was a life-saver for us. When my bag, with cash, passports, phone and credit cards was stolen within a few hours of our arrival in Rome from the US, Baylon owner came to the rescue, offerring support and his personal phone and computer to help us straighten out our affairs. The hotel room itself was clean and efficiently furnished, and we loved and looked forward to our daily breakfast at the Baylon Cafe, an inviting spot for watching Trastevere wake up every morning. In the heart of this famous and enchanting corner of Rome, you can't ask for better value.
