We booked 3 rooms at this hotel after reading the positive reviews about this place. The rooms were disappointing - dark and damp with poor ventilation. Washroom was clean, but again, dark and depressing. Not recommended for people suffering from allergies as carpets looked old and several members of our party complained of itchy and running noses through the night. Breakfast buffet was adequate, but as mentioned by a previous reviewer, not refilled.

The positives included friendly service particularly at the reception desk who directed us to food, metro, etc. Good luggage storage with no problems.

Location was a little far from the subway, but if you are not in a rush, this should not be a problem. The hotel is located in a quiet less touristy area. It was interesting to see the non-touristy part of Rome in action.

Internet was free but variable with poor reception in the rooms.

We would probably not stay here again as there is nothing special about this hotel, and in fact the rooms left much to be desired.

This hotel advertises itself as a 4 star but the rooms and the service in the breakfast area is definitely 3 star at best. We booked a deal through expedia and stayed in Rome for 3 nights. It probably worked out at 200euros/night.
Negatives:
1) Location: even though 500m from Bologna metro, Rome's metro is not great. Only 2 lines for central Rome. Walking to the main eating areas takes 20-30mins which is not a bad thing in itself as Rome really is a great city to walk through, however this meant that it took 1 hr to get to any decent lively area for a meal in a Piazza (Navone for example) from the hotel. The Metro also closes at 11.30pm on weekdays and 12.30 am weekends- not convenient if relying on the metro rather than taxis. Staying close to the sights/piazzas/bars would avoid this although probably more expensive. Our next time in Rome will definitely be in touristy-Rome to avoid this problem
2) Service/Breakfast: served on the 6th floor with decent district views. Be warned, standard breakfast only with minimal choice beyond cereal. The bread baskets were not topped up past 10am and everything was whisked away and shut down at 10.29 and 59 seconds. No leeway there. Almost felt like bootcamp.
3) Rooms: tv only had free Italian channels. No CNN or BBC available. Pay-per-view Sky available. We stayed on the ground floor near the back terrace and we had to have the curtains drawn all the time due to passing foot traffic as the windows faced the main corridor. Room was old and tired. Ventilation didn't work in the bathroom.
4) Why 3 star? No room service, restaurant. Ironing not allowed in rooms. They wanted to charge 5euro per garment initially but then reduced it to 4euro per garment. Still a ripoff seeing as they disallowed ironing. Also see points 2 and 3.
Advantages:
1) Reception service was warm and friendly.
2) Taxi service to airport at 45 euros definitely worth it. Not only do you avoid the crazy Rome crowds but the route includes driving past the Colosseum and a Pyramid built by an egocentric bureaucrat.
Advice for Rome in general:
1) at the airport (FCO) do not listen to the locals. Take the express into Termini (and not the all stops, jam-packed, hot, long and painful line to Tiburtina). Spend the 11euro/person cf. 5.50 euro/person
2)Sistine Chapel is closed on Sundays except for the last Sunday of the month
3) Frommer's guidebook is not detailed enough
4)buy the Romapass for 23euros which allows free use of the public transport system (not the trains from the airport however) and free entry into 2 exhibits. More importantly it allows you to walk past the mega-long queues at the Colosseum waiting to buy a ticket. Romapass valid for 3 days.

we had to change the first room beacause it was not convinient, but the second one at the 4rth floor was great. Good service (depends on people). We had really great time. phonic isolation is not good, but it seems that many italian hotels have this problem. and italians speak loud ! :o)

Finding the hotel was easier than I thought it'd be. You get off at the Bologna station on Linea B on the metro and its around a 500m walk down the hill. I stayed here for 3 nights in the so-called lift room. This was basically a room on the ground floor which was next to the lift mechanics so whenever someone used it, you could hear them go up and down. It does get annoying after a while and if you do want to change room if you are unlucky enough to be given this room, request it first thing in the morning so it can be arranged for you.

However, after walking 7 hours around Rome, the noise of the lift wasn't loud enough to keep me awake at night and it was however loud enough to wake me up in the morning in time for breakfast and my long day ahead for sight-seeing.

The internet can be used on your laptop for 5 euros for 2 hours which is a bargain in your own room.

Rome wise, I used a Roma Pass that cost me 23 euros and it gave me 3 days transport and gave me free entry to 2 monuments. This gave me no queue problems at colloseum as the pass allowed me to skip the long ticket queues and head straight into the amazing theatre.

If you need any more information on the hotel or what to do in Rome then send me a message and I will be more than happy to assist you. I stayed there for 3 nights and made the most of it - food can also be pricey so if this is a problem within your budget then I can tell you where was decent also for a cheap price.

  • Liked — Breakfast choice and bed comfort
  • Disliked — The noise can be distracting at times.

Hotel is a 5 minute walk from Bologna metro station, which is 5 minutes on the metro from the Colloseo station. Convenient for getting around and a massive saving on those hotels situated in the "centre". Staff were all very friendly and obliging. Lift was broken the first day we stayed, 6 floors (12 flights) up to breakfast and that before a day walking Rome’s streets!! The room had no window, but was well insulated from outside noise, but not from Mr & Mrs Loud in the room next door, there are a few rooms without windows. Otherwise it was clean and comfortable; the safe and a/c were useful. Breakfast was the normal continental affair and was generally good quality. Ask for proper Italian coffee from the staff rather than use the coffee machine at the buffet which produced revolting instant based stuff.

Stendahl Bar on P.zle delle Province does decent lunch & has food/drink to takeaway. There are great restaurants around Cavour metro frequented by Romans. Avoid Coliseum on Saturday; it’s heaving. One ticket does Coliseum/Forum/Palatine & is valid for 2 days. OAPs generally get in free (except the Vatican!). St Peters is quieter after lunch. Capitoline museum entry only valid for 4 hours after 1st entry, making a day there tricky. Metro ran a reduced service 14:00-17:00 with packed trains every 8 mins!

  • Liked — Decent hotel in well located for Rome sightseeing
  • Disliked — No window in our bedroom
