We arrived to the hotel about 21.30 and we were given a room that was still under renovation (I was aware that there was renovation going on when I booked). There was dust almost everywhere, it smelled like they had just clued the wallpapers on the walls. We were very tired, so we went to bed and tried to ignore that. When we woke up we found, that shower wasn't working properly! In Finland hotels would never give room like that to guests!
So we went to the reception and we wanted to change our room. Receptionist was very nice and polite and he started this room changing prosess right away (overall the staff was very helpful and nice). We were lucky and there was empty room for us. So we went to see all the historical monuments and when we got back to hotel, our luggages were moved to our new room as promised.
New room was nice, quite big and quiet (just little noise from outside). There was big double bed, flat-tv and good size shower/toilet (shower worked just fine). Room was just renovated, so everything was new.

Breakfast was OK but not as good as I thought after I read description of this hotel on the internet. E.g. bacon and eggs (cooked and scrampled) were missing and there wasn't any fresh vegetables or fruits, which includes every hotels breakfast here in Finland.

Hotels location is good as the Castro Pretorio metrostation is quite near (5-10 min. walking) and Piazza Fiume (bus stops) is almost around the corner. We mainly walked around the city and we think hotel is near enough for all the attractions.
There were couple of good trattorias/pizzerias nearby and prices were reasonable (e.g. pizza 7-8 euros, pasta 7-8 euros, 1 litre of house wine 6-7 euros, desserts 4-5 euros, large beer 3-4 euros). We loved restaurant/pizzeria Bella Napolis pizzas! (on Via Alessandria, about 200 m from the hotel).

We think this hotel is OK (we would definetily come back after renovation) and price was very reasonable (4 nights 328 euros).

I think many people do not give this hotel enough credit! After reading multiple reviews, my boyfriend and I weren't sure what to expect! We found the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is only a 3 star hotel and it isn't the fanciest thing in the world, but our room was more than adequate! The bathroom was EXCELLENT with a nice BIG tub to take baths in after walking Rome and sweating so much! The breakfast was GREAT and they had a lot of options to choose from daily! Overall, a great stay and I would recomment this hotel to anybody! I would say the only downfall is that it is a little bit outside of the city... But to be honest, there were times where that WAS appreciated seeing as Rome is a busy enough city in itself! You can walk to the Metro station or just walk to the city center, we didn't hesitate to do so! Hope you enjoy it!

Excellent service for what the hotel advertised and price. Really good location to get to any of the most interesting places in Rome. Public transport such as buses and tube are also very close. Rooms were clean and breakfast were a feast everyday, something you need when visiting such an amazing town as it is Rome.

My husband and I stayed at the Fiume hotel over the August bank holiday weekend. The service at the front desk was excellent from phoning for a taxi for us, to arranging a packed breakfast one morning so that we could go on an early morning trip, to advising on local transport, to faxing forms on request, nothing was too much trouble and was dealt with promptly with the all-encompassing 'prego'.

Good English was spoken at the hotel by the front desk staff which we found a relief (as we spoke no Italian apart from the essentials -how to order two glasses of wine :o).

Hotel Fiume wasn't centrally located but it was only approx one mile out of the city centre very close to bus stops (2 mins) about 10 mins walk to a metro station and only 10 mins walk to Borghese, a beautiful park with a marvellous museum. We walked into the city from the hotel and got to Republic square and fountains after about a twenty min stroll.

Fiume hotel is in a pleasant neighbourhood with plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants on the doorstep and feels like real Italy rather than a tourist trap, which more centrally located hotels might suffer from.

There was a nice buffet breakfast every morning from 7-10am with plenty of different types of food available which was very tasty .

The only reason this hotel is not getting a full 5 stars is that although the rooms were pleasant and of a decent size, with more than adequate bathrooms, they were a little shabby and worn around the edges. I found that electricity points looked a bit 'dodgy' not all of them worked. We could hear our neighbours coming back to their rooms at night, the doors were old and quite thin.

The hotel had been rated as 3 star in my travel agent - 'Thomson's brochure however, like tripadvisor says, it is more like a good 2 star with that level of facilities- our room had air conditioning, telephone, satellite TV, hairdryer, bath and shower, mini bar and safe.

I would certainly recommend this hotel if you are on a budget and not expecting luxury, just adequate rooms and nice staff.

We have just returned from two centre break with Archers Direct in which Hotel Fiume was our Rome base. Although not centrally located( this meant it was quiet) it is however very well connected. The rooms were clean and spacious and air conditioned. The breakfast was to be recommended- plentiful with lots of variety. The yoghurt machine was so cute. There were at least three restaurants within walking distance Checco E Lina was very good , the food was delicious and homecooked. We walked a couple of blocks to pick up the Rome circular opened topped bus and got off at different stops to sight see. Taxis were reliable and reasonable ate in the Trastevere and only about 12 Euros to get back. For shoppers, the department store Rinascentre is a stone throw away and had a sale on whilst we were there. The coffee shop on the top floor was great and afforded good views of that part of the city. The hotel is very close to The Villa Borghese which is great to allow kids to run around although you could hire bikes as well. A good base to sight see with out costing the earth. We also took a trip to Tivioli with Vastours a beautiful medieval town; tour included visited Hadrian's Villa and the amazing fountain gardens of Villa D'este- a photographers delight.
