A friend and I stayed in both a private room and dorm during our stay at the Beehive, both were clean and tidy however as a 26 year old female I felt a little uncomfortable sharing a dorm with men in their 50s (I was aware that this was not a youth hostel so not the Beehive's fault!) If I were to go back, I would definately choose a private room which is much nicer that the cheaper dorm rooms worth the extra money!

The location was great, very close to the train station and starting points for hop on/off bus tours etc. The free internet was great such a nice touch after spending a fortune in European internet cafes!!

The vegetarian cafe was excellent, the food was beautiful and well priced, we ate there 3 out of the 4 nights we stayed in Rome however we found the female American chef a little cold and not very welcoming but the food made up for the atmosphere!!

We stayed at Clover apartment and as stated before the area is a bit dodgy. I had selected it because it is close to termini -which it was. It was very convenient to go to all the attaractions and also to the Ciampino airport early in the morning. There is a covered vegetable market very close. They sell very good vegetables, fruits and other food in the mornings. I liked the cafe in there too. There were a couple of Indian restaurants. The food there was excellent. Since the area looked a bit dodgy I used to walk in the night and bring back packed food. I could also walk to the famous ice-cream shop. They pack the ice-cream along with a lot of ice so it was very easy to bring it back. The beautiful Magior (wrong spelling) church was very close. 'Sma' supermarket is close to the church if someone wants (almost) ready to eat food or cereals for breakfast it is a good place. There are a plenty of chinese restaurants too but we did not try them.

The building in which the apartment is located is quite dated and so is the lift. The apartment does not have anything special to write home about. It is clean. There could have been a race for the toilet. The internet works. On the whole it is good value for money. The only irritating thing was that the walls and the floors reflected the sound to an extent that one had to be extra careful - but we soon got used to it :)

I stayed in the dorm rooms for my 1st night. It was the first time I was stayed in a dorm and I was nervous, however as soon as i arrived i soon forgot my worries. The staff were friendly and the room was immaculately clean. All the other guests were lovely. I ate in the cafe and had a great bowl of soup and a glass of wine and it was lovely. The location was great also, really near the station, which has both metro lines.

The next night i was moved into the apartment Acaia. The location wasnt very good, in fact lonely planet said NOT to say in the area as it was dangerous and being a girl on my own I wasnt too happy about the new location. However the room was lovely, spaceous and again very clean.

I would certainly recommend the Beehive with 5 stars, but because of the location I would give the appartment 3 stars.

Oct 29, 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

We were a mother-daughter (ages 62 & 32) doing Italy in two weeks and started our stay in the Beehive's Millefiore apartment for three nights and spent our last night in Rome at the actual hotel.

Millefiore Apartment - three-bedroom apartment, we rented Room 1 and other residents were 3 friends from Singapore and a couple from Northern California. The apartment is very centrally located between the Termini and the Victor Emmanuel metro stops. As other guests have indicated, the area is a little iffy at night but we had no problems. I would probably think twice about arriving back to the apartment alone much after dark, but again we had no issues. Our room had one large window that opens onto the narrow internal courtyards, two twin beds, a fan in the room, small wardrobe, dresser, two nightstands, several power outlets. The three rooms share a small bathroom (small but powerful shower, toilet, bidet, large sink, window with ledge for storage, multiple hooks), a small kitchen (fridge, oven, range, sink, dishes, cookware, non-perishible leftovers from previous guests), and a HUGE central living room. Yes, the computer is archaic and slow, but it's free. We just did basic email and facebook updates and had no problems. Living room has a loveseat, two chairs, and a large dining room table. We decided not to cook (hey, we're on vacation) but the kitchen was handy for snacks and keeping our water bottles cold! Also, the tap water was excellent!

Hotel - located 2.5 blocks from the Termini, I have absolutely nothing negative to say. The staff were great (sometimes can seem preoccupied but we got what we need), breakfast was outstanding, free wi-fi throughout the hotel and courtyard (yay for my iphone!), great price, pillows here were more comfortable than at the apartment in my opinion, toilets & showers are shared down the hall.

We both would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Oct 28, 2009 | Trip type: Couples

My husband and I stayed at one of the Beehive apartments for 2 nights while in Rome. We had been told beforehand that we would be in one the apartments and that the area was not as nice as where The Beehive is located, so we knew what we were getting ourselves into.

The apartment is lovely and clean, and there is lots of food in the cupboard left, I presume, by The Beehive and previous travellers. It's kind of like an unwritten "pay it forward" system where you use what's in the cupboard but also leave things behind. One night I bought veggies, butter and parmesan and cooked a lovely risotto with the wine, rice and olive oil in the cupboard. The people staying in the 2 other rooms were friendly and considerate and there is a guest book with lots of good advice about Rome! The bed was very squeaky though so probably not the place if you are wanting some romance as the squeaks can clearly be heard from the next room...!

I was always with my husband so I felt safe, but the apartment is located in an area with graffiti on the walls, shops selling stuff that looks like it fell off the back of a truck, and lots of men on the streets at night. I don't think I would have felt safe on my own or even with another girl. I just think that people should know this so that if they are offered one of the apartments they know what they might be getting.
