My partner and I have just returned from a weekend in Rome staying at the Beehive and we would have no hesitation in recommending it. Having searched the web for other hotels in Rome, we felt that the Beehive was the perfect balance of economy and practicality. The double rooms were 'Ikea' styled with a fan and were clean and more than adequate for 80 euros a night. In our view, the owners have put some thought into the hotel - each room has a hairdryer, bath sized towels and shampoo and shower gel in the showers to enable you to travel light, which we appreciated. They were also really helpful with other aspects of travel such as luggage storage. It was a little noisy with other travellers coming and going as well as activity outside, but my experience of staying in other City Centre hotels is similar and we enjoyed this place more for the laid-back atmosphere. We personally found the location very useful - arriving from Ciampino airport, the bus from the airport takes you to the Termini station and it is a 5 minute walk to the Beehive, which was convenient on arrival and departure. Whilst the hostel isn't that central, it was interesting to walk into the centre and a day bus/tram/metro ticket is only 4 euros, so it was no problem. Finally, as non-dairy eaters, we found the cafe very useful for stocking soya products and other vegan food, which isn't easy in Rome! The 'pay what you think for the food' was a little unsettling at first but the intentions are good. We would recommend and would stay again.
