My partner and I have just recently returned from our 4 night stay at the Montecarlo Hotel. The hotel was easy to find and conveniently situated for the central train and bus station (Termini). Approximately 10-15mins walk. Also close by is the tour company ‘Enjoy Rome‘ who can also help with tourist information.
The check in for this hotel went smoothly and the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. It was clean, air conditioned, our room came with a combination locking safe, chilled mini bar and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom had all modern facilities including bath/shower, bidet and large sink. All were very clean.
Unfortunately we did not receive the room as shown in the pictures advertised. The room we did get was similarly decorated but on the small side, almost cramped. Although perfectly sized for one person. Our biggest grumble with our room was the lighting. Where the ceiling light should have been was a smoke detector (a good thing), the only illumination came from two dull wall lights, both situated on the same side of the room. If you like your gadgets or simply wish to charge your phone/camera, there were only two sockets, one for the TV and one for the fridge. The only spare was located in the bathroom for the shaver or toothbrush. The view from our window was a building so close you could almost touch it.
Breakfast was a cosy affair, but very limited in choice of food. A small range of a continental breakfast, with cereal. If the room was booked with no breakfast included you were charged 10 Euros per person per day. Not really worth it in our opinion, due to shops in town offering a wider selection for a cheaper price. We did not use any of the other amenities offered by the hotel. We just used it for a bed between lots of sightseeing.
I would recommend this hotel to people only staying a couple of nights. Which are going to be out all day, so just using it for somewhere to rest their heads. It maybe an idea to ask to see the room before accepting it if you want something a little more spacious.
The best things were the staff being friendly and the cleanliness of the hotel.
The worst things were the size and the dim lighting in our room.

Most of the staff, particularly Franco, is VERY helpful and friendly! He trully made my stay very enjoyable...offering to make capuccino's for me late in the evening, searching restaurants to suit my moods, and recommending attractions I might enjoy...like Villa D'este in Tivoli...I've been to Rome 3 times and each time I've stayed at the Montecarlo..mostly because of his excellent attention and of course the Hotel's convenient location to all the main attractions and the central train station. :)
It's a great value for the price.....

I had a very pleasant stay at hotel Montecarlo. The day and evening concierge were always kind and courteous- and extremely helpful with finding landmarks, directions. etc.

I am hoping to go back to Italy, and I would most likely stay at Hotel Montecarlo. (Unless they are booked!) Its location is quiet, which personally I like, yet it is within walking distance of the metro.

If you take a taxi, I might suggest - if you have difficulty with the price, the concierge came out to talk to the taxi driver (noting we seemed to have a concern) We really appreciated that.

I've done a bit of traveling, and sure enough always encounter one person looking for a naive tourist, to make an extra dollar. UGH!
[that is one thing I'm not] Not this traveler.... all the more reason to appreciate people like I met at Hotelmontecarlo!!!

Pictured is one very pleasant, and helpful evening concierge!
Speaking to him was such a pleasure- so intelligent, well read
and informative. very refreshing!

We stayed at the Montecarlo twice- before and after our cruise. The first visit was for 2 nights and the second was only one night. Both rooms were so very quiet and peaceful and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was quite good. The air conditioning worked amazingly well- it was so hot in Rome that we really appreciated the a.c.! The staff was very helpful and friendly. Upon arriving in Rome, we took the train to Termini station and then walked to the hotel with our luggage. We didn't have that much luggage, and it was a bit far for me. If you have a lot of luggage, my advice is to let the hotel staff arrange for a car or mini van to pick you up at the airport. When we returned to Termini at the end of our vacation, we tried to get a cab at the station, but the cab drivers wouldn't take us, so we ended up walking again. I think it was too short of a haul for them. The staff at the Montecarlo arranged a minivan back to the airport for us on our last day. It cost 60 euros total and it was well worth it not to have to walk to the train station with our luggage at 6:30 am and then take a crowded train. We ate at several restaurants around the Montecarlo and all were very good. Just walk down the street and pick any restaurant, you won't be disappointed. All in all, our stays at the Montecarlo were quite enjoyable, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

We stayed there one night before our cruise, because we were taking train to Civitavechia from Termini. The hotel room is small, which is standard in europe, but the shower is really small, its hard to put soap on, i dropped it twice, had to get out of shower to pick it up, and i weigh 112 pounds, dont know how bigger man even put on soap in there. I read in TA front desk Franco is super nice, but I only saw him for 2 minutes in the evening, the other times were different guys, one is not that nice. We were in a rush to catch the train after Sistine chapel visit, he not only didnt help us carry the heavy luggage down the steps to the street, but told us in not a nice way that we owe him for breakfast (they charge $30 for breakfast for 2, thats a rip off), we didnt even eat there. We had 2 croissants and expresso around the corner for 3 euro, they were delicious. Both my husband and I told him we didnt eat there, he didnt believe it, still checking and checking, we couldnt wait any longer and just left, we were in a rush to catch the train to the port. The hotel is not as close as we thought to Termini, thats the whole reason we stayed there. If you dont have luggage, maybe 7-8 minutes walk, but we have big luggage for the cruise, its at least 15 mintues walk, and not easy to drag on some cobble stone streets. I would find some other place closer next time.
