We stayed there one night before our cruise, because we were taking train to Civitavechia from Termini. The hotel room is small, which is standard in europe, but the shower is really small, its hard to put soap on, i dropped it twice, had to get out of shower to pick it up, and i weigh 112 pounds, dont know how bigger man even put on soap in there. I read in TA front desk Franco is super nice, but I only saw him for 2 minutes in the evening, the other times were different guys, one is not that nice. We were in a rush to catch the train after Sistine chapel visit, he not only didnt help us carry the heavy luggage down the steps to the street, but told us in not a nice way that we owe him for breakfast (they charge $30 for breakfast for 2, thats a rip off), we didnt even eat there. We had 2 croissants and expresso around the corner for 3 euro, they were delicious. Both my husband and I told him we didnt eat there, he didnt believe it, still checking and checking, we couldnt wait any longer and just left, we were in a rush to catch the train to the port. The hotel is not as close as we thought to Termini, thats the whole reason we stayed there. If you dont have luggage, maybe 7-8 minutes walk, but we have big luggage for the cruise, its at least 15 mintues walk, and not easy to drag on some cobble stone streets. I would find some other place closer next time.

I would say by far this was the best service we received at this hotel in our whole trip to Europe. When we walked in the door and while we were checking in the first thing the host did was pull out a map and mark exactly where we were at on the map. He then circled all the hotspot that we needed to see along with the closest bus & metro stop and even gave us the bus numbers. Upon arriving late, 9pm, we were upgraded to a balcony room which was wonderful. Room was large enough and ensuite bathroom was nice, both were very clean. There was a lift that was plenty spacious but we were only on the 1st floor so always chose to take the stairs as was faster then waiting on the lift. Breakfast was included in the price and plentiful, consisted of breads, cheese, fruit, cold cereals, several juices to choose from and hot drinks to order. Hotel also had a bar for drinks, computer was supplied but it cost for the internet at 1 eruo for 10 minutes. Only complaint was that the 1st floor where our room was it had a heavy smell of smoke from cigaretts, as I belive there was a staff room on that floor. Even though the smell was strong in the hallway are non-smoking room never smelt. We did have a street side room with large window that opened to the balcony but when window was shut was very quite, didn't hear much noice at all. Another service the hotel provided for us, at cost, was a car service to and from the hotel. A little pricy but we thought was worth the money since we arrived in the city at 8pm and left at 4am, we never had to worry about how to get to and from. Hotel is a little off the beatin path but only about 5-6 blocks from busy tourist section. We used the Ciao Roma tourist buses, the hotel sells tickets you can purchase them from them & then they call and arrange for you at a pickup. You pay a partial fee to the hotel and they give you a ticket then you present ticket to driver and pay the remained to him. The bus service took us to all the major tourist spots that you would want to go to, they are general pickup/dropoff spots so you do have to do alot of walking. Finding the bus stops took a little bit but you just have to look for the blue bus stop signs as there are several different type of tourist buses and you have to make sure you get on the right one or your ticket is no good. Hotel host was always very willing to give us directions or recommendations upon our asking. Would definately recommend this hotel and book again upon a return trip!

We had an excellent stay, even if we did feel the earthquake. An excellent clean hotel, with lovely staff very helpful. Rooms are a decent size. We enjoyed our stay. The only downside is that the hotel is little far out, next time I would stay somewhere a little closer to the centre of Rome. But very handy for the train station.

We enjoyed our stay at the Montecarlo Hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful, and even though we had a room facing the street it was so quiet. The area is safe and not too far from Termini train station. It is a bit of a walk to the downtown attractions, but if you take the train it's not bad. I appreciated the in-room wireless internet. I would definitely stay again.

The hotel is in a reasonable location. It is away from the main sites however fairly easy to access using public transport or a bearable walk. It took us 20min at a fairly quick pace to get back from the Trevi fountain. Allow 30mins to stoll it! Buses stopped very close to the hotel so made access very easy.

Our room was in the new section of the hotel. This meant that it was spotlessly clean with new everything. Unfortunately since we were there in January it was pretty cold. When we arrived the windows were open and the heating off. Once we worked out the air conditioning it was ok though. Unfortunately we never got the heated towel rail working so the bathroom was a bit cold.

Breakfast was ok. There wasn't a huge amount of choice but what was available was good. Get there early for the best pastries and to ensure a seat in the smallish breakfast room.

Overall the hotel was a good place to stay for a short break. The staff were very friendly and the facilities more than adequate. The only problems were the slightly greater distance from the centre and a cold room at first.

  • Liked — Great service and lovely chocolate croissants
  • Disliked — Cold. Brrrr.
