Due to a late booking, rooms in Rome were difficult to obtain. Now I know why this hotel was available. It is described as having an elevator, but one must walk up stairs to get to it. It is described as having air conditioning, but this is available at only certain hours of the day. Even though the hours of operation, including nighttime hours are posted on the controls, the A/C was not available at night. The explanation was after September 15 no air conditioning would be provided at night. However it was still very warm and opening the window only let in noise from a very busy street below. Between the heat and the noise sleeping was difficult.
The staff was not helpful. Nice glass ice buckets are provided, but to get ice one must ask the desk agent. In our situation, a small amount of ice was provided from a regular ice cube tray from a kitchen refrigerator.
Rooms are small which is not unexpected but seemed smaller because of the heat. Cleanliness acceptable.
Our reservations were actually for 2 nights, but we arrived in the morning rather than the previous night. I expected to pay for the full 2 days reservations but when I asked the manager to waive the minibar fees (2 waters and a beer) because of our inconvenience with the A/C he refused.
My impression that the hotel's policy is to maximize income and minimize convenience.
