I spent two nights at the Pacific Hotel in Rome while traveling with a group of students. Overall, the hotel is acceptable, but it is showing its age. The rooms were small, but the bathrooms were relatively large (almost as big as the sleeping area). There were modern, enclosed, stand-up showers (a rarity in Europe), with clean fixtures. The matresses felt a bit worn, but the sheets and pillows were clean.
Downstairs, there is a decent bar to have a drink at the end of the day. The front desk staff was very kind and helpful. The hotel restaurant is clean and acceptable, but this is Rome; go out to eat!
The hotel's location is convenient for Vatican City, but the rest of Rome is a subway ride or a bus ride away. If you're confident using the bus (it's easy) or the subway (even easier), then the hotel's location is not bad.
The hotel often fills up with tour groups and students, so beware during the summer months. It's an average hotel, with smaller rooms and clean bathrooms. It's about like a Motel 6 in the United States, but with smaller rooms.
This hotel is nothing special; and for the price you can probably find something closer to the heart of Rome. It's not bad, but it's not great either. I would look elsewhere when I return to Rome.
