I agree with previous reviewers that the location of this hotel has a lot of positives. Easy access to a grocery, McDonalds, internet cafe, gelato store and the bus stop made our stay there almost bearable.

Our room, though, left much to be desired. We were staying with a tour group as this hotel seems to specialize in them. To be fair, some people in our group had a pleasant experience. But this is an accounting of what we encounered.

Our shower did not drain and the bathroom had an ant infestation. The carpeted floors were nasty so be sure to bring socks to wear around that you are then willing to throw away. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. There are no screens so the mosquitos have free reign. After the first night of fighting them off and receiving at least 50 bites among us we kept the windows closed and endured the heat since there is no working air conditioning. The desk staff was unresponsive to our complaints.

Fortunately, we had read the reviews before we left and locked our luggage each day before we left the room. One day I left one bag unlocked and it was obviously looked through with things left messed up; fortunately nothing was stolen.

If you have ANY choice of whether or not to stay here, by all means choose another hotel. If you are stuck here with a tour group I hope our warnings will help you plan how to survive a stay at this establishment. Bring several cans of OFF and mentally prepare for a camping-like experience. And lock your luggage.

I stayed at this hotel for a few days in March with a large tour group. I thought the area was beautiful and there were places to go around it and it also wasn't as far from the cities as the other hotels we stayed at... I like how it was decorated and I thought they were well accommodating. I would highly recommend it. The garden I thought was very beautiful especially late night/early morning. The only thing I didn't like about the hotel was it's showers.... they were way too small and the other ones that were in the hotel just covered the whole bathroom floor, i guess that's not too bad but a lot of the hotels we stayed at in Italy had really small showers but huge bathrooms.

I definately recommend this hotel though...

I profoundly disagree with the earlier ratings for this hotel. It may be possible that two different hotels exist in Rome with the same name. The Hotel La Pergola that I stayed in was nice (address: Via Dei Prati Fiscali 55, Roma 00141, Italy, phone #+39 06 810 7250, ---).

The staff was friendly, helpful, and certainly went out of their way to accommodate our large tour group. One of the hotel managers, Sergio, was especially helpful, and made our stay pleasant.

The hotel is located next to a grocery store and a Mc Donald's (aka American embassy). It was a short, safe walk and several of our tour members visited one or both locations. The outside of the hotel is fine. There is a very nice courtyard in an "L" shape and many in my group really enjoyed sitting there.

I found the rooms adequate. My only complaint is that the walls were thin - I could hear my neighbors in the next room talking (glad I brought my earplugs). Otherwise, the room was clean and comfortable, with no odors as described in previous ratings. I had the occasion to enter several of the hotel's rooms since I was a chaperone on our tour group, and I also found the same clean, odor free conditions in those rooms as well (of course it was clean before the kids opened their suitcases!).

The hotel arrangements were made for my group by EF Tours. I do not know what the room cost, but I expect that it was a reasonable value.

the hotel was a little further out from Rome then i expected, but it was easy to get in and out of the city center. I actually liked the location towards the end because my children couldn't get into trouble. perfectly clean and pleasant.

This hotel was every bit as bad as the previous reviews indicated. The rooms are small, uncomfortable and many had the smell of sewage coming up from the shower drains. We had five kids stuffed into tiny top floor rooms and I did not see any smoke alarms. The desk clerk is as smarmy a character as I have met. One room with five girls had only 4 towels and he said he did not have a key to get another towel. When we protested, he pulled a roll of toilet tissue from beneath the desk and said, "This is what I have to blow my nose on and you want a towel?" That probably was the roll missing from one of the rooms. One chaperone had no pillow at all and was told there was not another one in the hotel. The hotel is in a poor location, very far from any sightseeing. The ladies in the breakfast room are friendly and will get you a real cup of coffee if you tip a Euro or two. I would never, never recommend this hotel to anyone.
